UFC 245 Predictions
Let’s take a look at the three title fights and try to pick a winner in each (UFC Vegas odds included):
Amanda Nunes -310 vs. Germaine de Randamie +240
Nunes, who owns both the 135- and 145-pound titles, defends her bantamweight title for the fifth time against de Randamie, who is a former 145-pound titleholder.
These two met six years ago in 2013 when Nunes won on a first-round TKO. De Randamie has won five straight bouts since then, while the champ has gone 9-1. This is the seventh straight title bout for Nunes who is well on her way to solidifying her status as the best women’s fighter in the world.
VGB’s pick — Nunes (-310)
Max Holloway -175 vs. Alexander Volkanovski +145
Volkanovski, who has won 17 fights in a row, tries to wrestle the featherweight title away from the champ. Holloway won the interim featherweight title in 2016 and the unified title in 2017.
He has defended the 145-pound belt three times, including his last victory over former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar in July. Volkanovski is undefeated in seven fights since his UFC promotion in 2016. The last time the Aussie lost was in May 2013.
VGB’s pick — Holloway (-175)
Kamaru Usman -175 vs. Colby Covington +145
The main event is a lot closer fight than the odds suggest. Usman won the Ultimate Fighter in 2015 and has since won nine UFC bouts, destroying his competition in the welterweight division.
Covington has done the same over the last five years. He’s lost once since joining the UFC in 2014, but he enters the Octagon on a seven-fight winning streak, including an August victory over ex-champion Robbie Lawler. It seems he’s often underestimated because of his trash talk.
“Every opponent that I’ve faced, I’ve never really had ill will towards. I’ve never had bad blood to where I was in there maliciously trying to hurt them,” Usman said in a war of words with Covington. “This is a guy that I have that towards.”
VGB’s pick — Covington (+140)
