Jalin Turner and Bobby Green meet in the co-main event at UFC on ESPN 52 this Saturday night. Turner (-225) answered the call from the UFC after Dan Hooker had to pull out of the fight with Green and will come into the contest as the favorite with the best MMA betting sites. But with only a few days to prepare for the fight, will Jalin Turner be ready? In our latest UFC betting picks, we take a closer look.
What: UFC on ESPN 52
Co-Main Event: Jalin Turner vs. Bobby Green
Where: Moody Center, Austin, Texas, United States
When: Saturday, December 2nd, 2023
Time: 7 pm ET (Main Card)
Dan Hooker and Bobby Green were originally lined up to contest the co-main event this Saturday. Hooker had to withdraw due to an arm injury, and in stepped Jalin Turner to replace the No.9 ranked fighter in the UFC lightweight division.
As we recently witnessed with Tom Aspinall’s sensational win over Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295, being a late replacement in the UFC isn’t always a bad thing. But while Aspinall is a heavyweight who had no issues with weight, Turner recently came in overweight for his lightweight fight against – of all ironies – Dan Hooker, resulting in a catchweight contest at 158 lbs, which Hooker won.
For the bout against Bobby Green, Turner has even less time to get down the required weight. So might this affect his performance on the night?
Jalin Turner vs. Bobby Green Betting Odds
The bookmakers don’t seem to think it will be a problem for Jalin Turner, as they have made him their odds-on favorite to win on the money line.
This could change in the days leading up to the fight, especially if Turner doesn’t look great when he steps onto the scales at the end of the week. But as things stand now, Jalin Turner is -225 to win on the money line. Bobby Green is +190.
Moving onto the props markets, you can get +110 on yes for the fight to go the distance and -140 on the fight not going to the judges’ scorecards.
In the method of victory market, Turner is +225 to win on points and +250 to win by KO/TKO/DQ. To win by a submission, Turner is +375. For Bobby Green, he is +425 to win on points and +465 to win by KO/TKO/DQ. You can get a massive +1300 for Green to win by submission.
Green has won nine times by submission throughout his MMA career. He defeated Tony Ferguson with an arm-triangle choke hold at UFC 291 in July. But you have to go back to 2013 to find his last submission win before his victory over Ferguson.
On our odds table below we have plenty of betting options available on the fight. The odds we have used are from the best UFC betting sites.
Jalin Turner has a Mixed Martial Arts record of 13-7. He comes into this fight after losing his previous two bouts. Before the two defeats, he was on a five-fight winning streak that saw him climb the UFC rankings to 10th place.
The 28-year-old Californian lost his two recent fights on split decisions. At UFC 285 in March, he lost to Mateusz. And at UFC 290 in July, he lost his 158 catchweight fight with Dan Hooker.
Overall in his career, Turner’s 13 wins have come by nine knockouts and four submissions. In his seven defeats, he has lost by decision on four occasions and by knockout three times.
Veteran Green looking for a third straight win
Bobby Green is a 37-year-old MMA veteran with a fight record of 31-14-1-1. It was thought that his better days were behind him, but he has won his last two fights against Tony Ferguson and Grant Dawson, also winning the Performance of the Night award on both occasions.
Wins over Tony Ferguson of late can be played down (by some) as the UFC legend is on a losing streak of six. But Green was impressive in his 33-second KO of Dawson at Fight Night 229 in early October.
Across his career, Green has won 31 of his 47 fights. He has won 11 times by knockout, nine times by submission, and 11 times by decision. The breakdown of his 14 losses is eight by decision, four by knockout, and two by submission.
Jalin Turner vs. Bobby Green; Our Picks
Both of these fighters seem more comfortable on their feet. Jalin Turner has a significant height and reach advantage over Green, and along with having youth on his side, this could be significant.
Although Bobby Green recently submitted Tony Ferguson, it’s hard to envisage him taking the fight to the mat. As the UFC Vegas betting odds of +1300 show, a win for submission by Green is highly unlikely.
This could mean we get a striking contest on Saturday night. Green has the better boxing statistics, both attacking and defensively. But will this trump Turner’s height (five-inch) and reach (six-inch) advantage? We don’t think it will.
We are going with a win for Jalin Turner as our betting pick. If you want to play safe, back him to win on the money line at -225. But we are going for the win by KO/TKO/DQ at +250 for our betting pick.
