In a showdown that is sure to draw plenty of attention, Edson Barboza and Giga Chikadze are all set to face off in the main event of another UFC Fight Night come Aug. 28 in Las Vegas. In this piece, we have Edson Barboza vs. Giga Chikadze UFC picks, plus we break down another fight on the docket. This is going to be an event fans won’t want to miss.
Edson Barboza is the underdog going up against Giga Chikadze
With these two featherweights getting ready to go to battle, Edson Barboza is the underdog going up against Giga Chikadze. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, but that doesn’t mean that Barboza won’t be ready to try and pull off an upset when these two face off over in Las Vegas. The UFC Apex will be quite the venue for this one, as countless fans will be tuned in.
In his last fight, Chikadze took on Cub Swanson at a UFC Fight Night in early May. Chikadze was nothing short of impressive in that victory, improving his record to 13-2-0, taking down Swanson with a first-round knockout. In that win, Chikadze delivered a brutal left-footed kick to Swanson’s midsection, which caused an incredible amount of pain. Soon after, the fight was over. Barboza himself knows this will be an unreal contest.
“It’s a lot like the fight with (Shane) Burgos, it’s the type of fight that makes me excited,” Barboza said in a recent interview previewing his fight with Chikadze later this month. “I’m a real fan, and I know it’s going to be a fun fight. It’s a main event, 25 minutes, and it’s the type of fight that makes me say yes right away. I’m sure it’s going to be a great fight.”
Per the Las Vegas sportsbooks, Barboza has been given +115 UFC odds, while Chikadze has been listed at -112. We think this has what it takes to be an incredibly close fight. At the end of the day, however, we do think that Chikadze will be able to come out on top and do so in either the second or third round. Do you agree with us? Will the Barboza vs. Chikadze fight end in a TKO?
With this fight coming in less than three weeks, everyone will be wanting to know will the Barboza vs. Chikadze fight end in a TKO? Both of these guys are known as being tremendous brawlers, especially when it comes to delivering powerful kicks. It’s one thing to have a powerful punch, but both Barboza and Chikadze do a fantastic job of hitting their opponents with bruising kicks.
This is something we can fully expect for the Aug. 28 main event. What makes things interesting here too is that Barboza also won his last fight going up against Shane Burgos, doing so with a third-round knockout. Barboza hit him with a powerful right hit to the face and soon after that, Burgos was on the ground. With the two recording TKO wins, will that happen come Aug. 28?
While the odds of a knockout being recorded are yet to be released by the Las Vegas sportsbooks, we do think that will be the case when Barboza and Chikadze meet off. These two have unreal power and they have shown multiple times they can catch their opponents off guard with a beautiful strike either to the body or in the face. Our pick is for Chikadze to win, also with it coming via a TKO.
Wellington Turner is expected to take down Sam Alvey
In another intriguing matchup for this UFC Fight Night, Wellington Turner is expected to take down Sam Alvey when they meet inside of the octagon. According to the oddsmakers, Turner has been given -150 odds. Meanwhile for Alvey, he’ll have to try and shock some folks, as Vegas has placed him with +125 odds. In order for that to happen, Alvey will have to be near perfect.
Turner is 16-5-0 in his career, while Alvey is 33-15-1. On paper, Turman is the better fighter and he’s going to be pumped up to try and get back on track after suffering a tough loss in his last fight. At a June UFC Fight Night, Turman went head-to-head with Bruno Silva, but Silva was able to record a TKO in the first round. It was a disappointing result for Turman.
Meanwhile for Alvey, he also was handed a loss. Alvey met up with Julian Marquez at a UFC Fight Night in April, but he took the loss via a first-round submission. These two middleweights are hungry to try and record a victory and showcase their skills. While we do think this could end up being a fun fight, that doesn’t mean we think an upset will be recorded. We’re going with Turman as our pick.
