With the Premier League campaign set to get underway on Friday, it’s a perfect time to take a look at who could win it all next Spring. Of course, Manchester City is the reigning champions after winning the treble last term, and by no surprise to anyone, they’re a clear favorite to repeat at -140. After that, it’s a significant drop-off to round out the top five. Arsenal sits at +500, followed by Liverpool (+700), Manchester United (+1100), and Chelsea (+1400). Below, we’ll preview the 2023-24 Premier League futures and take an in-depth look at the top-five sides and their chances of lifting the grand prize.
Who else would be at the top? Despite trailing Arsenal for a lot of the 2022-23 campaign, the Gunners slipped up and City took full advantage, ultimately finishing five points clear. They’ve now won the Premier League in five of the last six seasons, solidifying themselves as not only the best club in England but arguably the best team in the world. Pep Guardiola’s men also won the FA Cup and most importantly, the Champions League for the first time in their history, besting Inter Milan in the showpiece. Although the Sky Blues did lose Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan this summer, they improved by adding Josko Gvardiol and his Croatian teammate Mateo Kovacic. With Haaland coming off a historic season and the squad still looking strong, no one should even come close to the Cityzens in the title race.
Arsenal (+500)
It’s common knowledge that Arsenal threw away their opportunity to win the Premier League last season but in all honesty, they didn’t deserve it. Nevertheless, the North Londoners made sure to go out and improve their squad in the summer transfer window, finally reaching an agreement with West Ham for Declan Rice while also buying Kai Havertz from Chelsea and Jurrien Timber from Ajax. The Gunners did just beat City in the Community Shield which is certainly a feather in their cap, but the primary focus will be competing in the UCL and fighting for the EPL title. Although it won’t be easy, they have a shot at being in the mix.
Liverpool (+700)
For such an experienced side, Liverpool was very poor in 2022-23, only qualifying for Europa. Jurgen Klopp’s group will have a different look in the upcoming campaign as well. Roberto Firmino has departed along with Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho, and others. The Merseysiders managed to secure a couple of intriguing signings though in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. It’s impossible to look past the strength of the Reds’ attack with Mo Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez. However, it simply comes down to their solidity at the back. That was the difference maker last year. Expect Liverpool to fight for a Champions League spot.
Manchester United (+1100)
Erik ten Hag has splashed the cash since coming to Old Trafford and that trend continued this summer, singing Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund. Onana will start in between the sticks with David De Gea gone, while Hojlund and Mount should see ample playing time, too. The Red Devils finished in third last term and will return to Europe’s most prized competition. I don’t believe they have what it takes to dethrone City, but the top-four is definitely a reality.
Chelsea (+1400)
I’m honestly surprised Chelsea is even here because there is so much uncertainty surrounding this club. Todd Boehly sold a boatload of players in the transfer window, including Havertz, Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kalidou Koulibaly, Christian Pulisic, and others. In other words, the squad looks entirely different. They did sign Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Axel Disasi however, with Nkunku and Jackson expected to play an integral part. In classic Chelsea fashion though, the Frenchman just suffered a brutal knee injury and will miss four months. After placing 12th in 2022-23, anything inside the top-six would probably be deemed a step in the right direction. Top-four feels like a longshot unless the side comes together and starts surprising everybody.
