What we’ve known was going to happen for some time now was mathematically confirmed in Round 18 at Qatar earlier this month.
During the Sprint Race at the Lusail Circuit, the Red Bull driver secured the points he needed to become the F1 Drivers Championship winner for the third successive year.
The confirmation of Verstappen as World Champion means Red Bull has now won both the drivers and constructors championship in what has been a dominant 2023 for the UK-based Austrian team.
Betting to win the Drivers Championship without Max Verstappen
But although there is nothing left to win from a driver’s perspective, there is still plenty to be sorted out from a punter’s perspective.
First up, there is the betting to win the World Championship without Verstappen.
Sergio Perez has led the way in this market all season now. Although he had a disappointing weekend in Qatar, it could have been far worse.
Lewis Hamilton is his closest rival in the field to finish second to Verstappen. Fortunately for Perez, Hamilton got himself involved in a first-lap crash with teammate George Russell in Qatar and was unable to finish the race. Perez didn’t cover himself in much glory with his drive, finishing tenth. But at least he picked up one point more than Hamilton did.
At the end of the weekend, Perez sat on 224 points, with Hamilton 30 behind on 194 points. There are 18 points a race on offer for the driver that finishes second (assuming Verstappen keeps on winning), so it is still feasible that Perez can be caught with five races remaining.
Going in favor of Perez is the emergence of McLaren. With Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri joining Verstappen on the podium in Japan and Qatar, Hamilton hasn’t been able to make any significant ground over the past couple of races.
As a result, Sergio Perez is -400 to win the Drivers Championship without Verstappen. Lewis Hamilton is +275, with Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso both at +20000.
Betting to win the 2023 United States Grand Prix
Only four more times this season do I need to write this after this weekend’s race – Max Verstappen is the odds-on favorite to win the Grand Prix. Yes, the best Formula 1 betting sites have Verstappen at -450 to win the 2023 US Grand Prix.
No longer is Sergio Perez the second favorite for races. This weekend, it’s the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who are +1200. Next is Perez at +1800, with Charles Leclerc at +2500 and Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Carlos Sainz all at +2800.

Max Verstappen was last year’s winner. He was joined on the podium by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Pole Position 12 months ago was claimed by Carlos Sainz, and George Russell recorded the fastest lap. Red Bull didn’t have things all their way.
The circuit length at Austin is 5.513 km, and the race has 20 turns with 2 DRS detection zones. It now seems apparent to everybody that McLaren is the team finishing the season the strongest. Their drivers have occupied second and third on the podium over the past two races, and with only three of the 20 corners at the Circuit of the Americas not high-speed, McLaren (who enjoy high-speed corners) is likely to feature again this weekend.
In the betting to win the Sprint race this Saturday, Max Verstappen is -400. Lando Norris is +1100, and last weekend’s Sprint winner Oscar Piastri is +1200. We think backing both McLaren drivers at double-digit odds is well worth it. We make Lando Norris (+1100) and Oscar Piastri (+1200) our picks to win the United States Sprint race.
Onto our Grand Prix betting pick, and we’re following a similar pathway. A Red Bull to win the race is -550. A McLaren is +550. It’s obvious where the better value lies, and we make any McLaren winning the 2023 United States Grand Prix our betting pick.
