For the biggest and best actors and actresses out there, few nights are better than The Oscars. It’s an event that highlights the top stars in film out there, while directors and producers are also being shown a ton of love throughout the night. With that said, who will be taking home awards this year? In this piece, we have our The Oscars picks for the 2021 awards.
Nomadland is the resounding favorite to win Best Picture
The big-ticket at The Oscars each year is for everyone to see which film will be honored as the No. 1 of the year. For 2021, Nomadland is the resounding favorite to win Best Picture. If you haven’t seen it yet, we highly recommend doing so. There’s a main reason why the Vegas sportsbooks have given it the best odds to win the best picture: it’s simply fantastic.
Directed by Chloe Zhao, Nomadland really is a film that has stolen countless headlines because of how tremendous it is. Leading up to The Oscars on Sunday, April 25, Nomadland has a head-turning -500 odds. Again, that tells you how confident Vegas is that it will end up winning best picture. Those kinds of odds make it quite clear that they’re big-time favorites and it will be hard for anyone to catch up to it.
For comparison sakes, the other films in contention for best picture are Trial of the Chicago 7 at +650, while Promising Young Woman is +1200, Minari is +1200, Judas & Black Messiah is +2500, Mank is +2500, and Sound of Metal is +5000. With all of those other The Oscars Vegas odds that we listed here, it just goes to show how strong Nomadland is looking in winning best picture. Betting on any other film wouldn’t be a wise move.
That’s why there’s no question whatsoever that Nomadland is our pick to win best picture at The Oscars. Thus far, it has won several awards this year. Zhao made a near-perfect film, and those who hand out the awards really do think it was the best film out there. We’ll have to wait and see if The Oscars committee also agrees, but at this point, it would be an absolute stunner if anyone beat out Nomadland.
Who will end up winning best actor at The Oscars?
Elsewhere, movie buffs everywhere want to know who will end up winning best actor at the Oscars? Just like every year, there are some incredible actors who are in the running to take home the prestigious honor. But, who holds the best odds? Well, that advantage has been given to Chadwick Boseman, who did a truly fantastic job in his work for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Boseman holds an overwhelming -2500 odds to win Best Actor.
At -2500, you might as well just give Boseman the award. That number tells everyone that it will be virtually impossible for anyone to dethrone him as the best of the best for The Oscars. Behind him in the odds is Anthony Hopkins at +1000, Riz Ahmed at +1400, Gary Oldman at +2000 and Steve Yeun at +2500. While betting on Boseman won’t give you a great payout because of the odds, he simply has to be the pick if you want to make a wager here.
Risking your money on Hopkins, Ahmed, Oldman or Yeun would be a bit foolish. Sure, you’d receive a great return if one of them actually wins, but Boseman should win here. It really feels like it would be a miracle if someone else was able to call themselves the Best Actor winner at the end of the night. With -2500 odds, Boseman will enter the night with all of the confidence in the world.
The performance he put in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is one that folks will be talking about for years. While the film was directed by George C. Wolfe, the incredible list of producers included the one and only Denzel Washington. With Boseman working with one of the best actors of all time on this set, it’s easy to see how he was able to put forth such a brilliant performance. Go ahead and lock in Boseman for the Best Actor here.
Carey Mulligan has the best odds to win Best Actress
Meanwhile for the women, Carey Mulligan has the best odds to win Best Actress after her work in Promising Young Woman. Similar to Boseman, Mulligan was downright brilliant in her work with this film. She holds -115 odds to win Best Actress. Things are much tighter in the race to win this award, as Mulligan has several others behind her who have pretty decent odds as well.
In addition to Mulligan, movie fans will want to check out the odds for Viola Davis (+225), Frances McDormand (+450), Andra Day (+550) and Vanessa Kirby (+1000). On paper, this looks like it could end up being a battle between Mulligan and Davis. However, you don’t want to forget about McDormand, Day or Kirby here either, as you never know what might end up happening.
With that said, Davis figures to be the one to have the best chances to steal this award from Mulligan. Davis impressed starring alongside Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The two were a match made in heaven for that particular film. As for Mulligan, she stole the show in Promising Young Woman. From start to finish, she put forth a showing in that film that is truly deserving of Best Actress.
While this is a bit of a tough decision, we’re going to go with Mulligan as our pick for Best Actress. Davis, McDormand, Day and Kirby should be proud of the work they did and we’re not taking anything away from them whatsoever. At the end of the day, though, Mulligan’s performance has the No. 1 odds because countless folks out there think it indeed was the best. We’re agreeing with that, as Mulligan will be our pick for Best Actress.
