Once again, the entertainment world heads to Los Angeles for the 2025 Academy Awards. Bovada online Vegas sportsbook updated their numbers for the 97th Annual Edition. These numbers expect to frustrate some but it appears expanding the field for certain awards opened things up for more nominations. Does Emilia Perez and its 13 nominations win a large swath of awards or do we see a bunch of surprises? Could we get something in the middle?
2025 Academy Award Numbers | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
---|---|---|---|
Best Picture | |||
Anora | -200 | -225 | -250 |
Conclave | +225 | +225 | +200 |
The Brutalist | +600 | +550 | +550 |
A Complete Unknown | +4000 | +4000 | +4000 |
Wicked | +5000 | +4500 | +4000 |
Emilia Perez | +6500 | +6000 | +6000 |
I'm Still Here | +8000 | =8000 | =9000 |
The 2025 Academy Awards Bets looks at the expanded field for the big category. Yes, the race for best picture is ten strong this year. With so many choices, this appeared to be the area to zero in on. Bettors will be surprised to know that there is a favorite who is in minus territory. Anora rolls in around -200 to -250 depending on the sportsbook.
So, with this many films up for consideration (double the field most are used to), it may even be okay to hedge a little. Making one pick likely sells a bettor short here. Two or three allow for a better chance of a victory. Consider that The Brutalist is up to +600 via Bovada currently (the third choice). By the way, the drama won at the Golden Globes beating out Conclave and A Complete Unknown.
Golden Globes – The Brutalist / Emilia Perez
— Ryan Benharris (@RyanBenharris) February 24, 2025
CCA – Anora
WGA – Anora
DGA – Anora
SAG – Conclave
Most unpredictable #Oscar best picture winner in at least 2 decades
Now, look at what we have here. As always, some of the more independent guilds went with Anora. Yet the Golden Globes sided with Emilia Perez over Anora. Despite this, the favorite is Anora, Conclave won with the SAG but nowhere else. If one wants to stay away from the favorite, this may be the year.
The focus lies on going elsewhere. Sprinkling some money on Conclave (+250 via BetUS), The Brutalist, or even A Complete Unknown may be a method to utilize. These are all very good movies and even Emilia Perez carries a considerable amount of buzz. With a wide-open field, For a 3.5 hour film, The Brutalist carries well, does not drag, and is our choice for Best Picture.
Okay, let us have more fun with the 2025 Academy Awards Bets. Keep in mind, there are several wagering options besides Best Picture. While Adrian Brophy feels like a solid win for Best Actor (The Brutalist), one might consider Ralph Fiennes (Conclave). It is an excellent performance that leaves a movie goer at the edge of their seat and maybe out of it.
With so many bets at the ready, several sportsbooks have at least 8-10+ categories to choose from. If you are wondering, BetOnline has 23. Now, categories range from Best Picture to Best Visual Effects to Best International Feature where Emilia Perez probably wins (-145). The awards are not until Sunday night so there is still more than enough time to browse through all the options.
After the #SAGAwards, my Oscars predictions would be:
— Dan Girolamo (@danny_giro) February 24, 2025
Best Picture: ANORA
Best Director: Sean Baker
Best Actor: Adrien Brody
Best Actress: Demi Moore
Ask me on Sunday morning, and I might have different answers. #oscars
So, again there are so many writers, artists, and more that keep alluding to more uncertainty than usual. What does this all mean? Honestly, no one knows. With so many nominations, some films get left out in the cold. It is unfortunate but reality dictates this. Ten films enter and one wins for Best Picture. Alien: Romulus would be a great upset in Best Visual Effects at +2300. Can it unseat Dune 2 (-1200)?
The answer is unlikely but the two are very close. Do not forget Best Live Action Short Film. It has two heavyweights and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent should be the favorite but is not. Take the gift +175. It is like rolling the dice on The Brutalist in a way.
Okay, how about we dig even more in the 2025 Academy Awards Bets. The fun part picking in this area is some battles are brewing in unexpected categories. Best Animated Feature Film sees The Wild Robot going up against Flow. Flow has a real chance here at +225 (via Bovada). Flow snagged the recent Golden Globe here and has a little more buzz heading into the weekend.
Now, digging into the categories. too many locks get mixed in. Kieran Culkin (Best Suporting Actor) is now as much as -5000 on a few sportsbooks. Bovada, at press time, had Culkin listed at -3500. Zoe Saldana is now around -2500 to -3000 herself for Best Supporting Actress. For all the unpredictable, there is a little certainty. Now, the key word is a little.
Yes, therefore we get moving with a Best Documentary Feature upset in Sugarcane. The two top films have more than carried their weight. However, upsets always happen somewhere. See Parasite a few years ago for Best Picture. Sometimes, anything can happen and at +700, it might not be a bad thing to ponder here.
For the 2025 Academy Award Best Bets, picking Flow to take advantage of the momentum from the last few awards to snare the Oscar as well.
