Round 4 of the 2023 F1 season is fast approaching, and the next race on the roster is the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where the drivers will take on the tricky street circuit in Baku. Red Bull has dominated the season so far, winning all three of the races already. Is this domination set to continue? Let’s take a look at our latest Formula 1 betting picks.
What; 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix – Round 4
Where; Baku City Circuit, Baku, Azerbaijan
When; Sunday, April 30th, 2023
Time; 7 am ET
Laps; 51
Race Length; 306.049 km
This race means an early start for F1 fans in the Eastern Time Zone. And with Max Verstappen somewhat dominating things these days, some fans may wonder if it’s worth the early rise to watch another Red Bull procession.
Max Verstappen won Round 3 in Australia. And with that victory, he extended his lead at the top of the Drivers Championship. The writing appears to be on the wall for the remainder of the 2023 F1 season.
Betting to win the 2023 F1 World Championship
If any doubt were required about just how dominant the two Red Bulls have been, then just take a look at the latest Formula 1 betting odds. The best Las Vegas sportsbooks already have Max Verstappen at -800 to win his third title in three years.
Second in the betting to win the 2023 Drivers Championship is Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez, who is +1600. The first non-Red Bull driver in the betting is Fernando Alonso at +2000, with Lewis Hamilton next at +2500.
And if you think that’s crazy, the man who was expected to give Verstappen maybe a slight run for his money this season, yes, Charles Leclerc. Remember him? He is a small matter of +5000 to win the 2023 Drivers Championship. This, after just three races!
It gets better as well. In the Constructors Championship, Red Bull is -2500 to win that. It’s a bit of a free-all behind them, with Mercedes, Ferrari, and Aston Martin all at +2500.
There is even already a Drivers Championship w/o the Verstappen betting market, and Red Bull is even dominating that. Sergio Perez is the favorite in this market at -250. This is a slightly more competitive market, though. Fernando Alonso is the second favorite at +325, and Lewis Hamilton is next at +700. If you think Ferrari can mount a comeback of sorts this season, Leclerc is an appealing looking +3000.
Now, let’s take a look at the betting to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Do you think you might already know who’ll be leading the way in the betting?
Azerbaijan Grand Prix Betting
Yes, it’s Max Verstappen. And the only question you need to know the answer to is just how short are his odds for this race? Well, the answer to that is Max Verstappen is -250 to win the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The double-world champion is followed by his teammate, Sergio Perez, at +450, and then comes Fernando Alonso (+1200) and Lewis Hamiton (+1600). Following the leading four in the betting is the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc (+2500) and Carlos Sainz (+2800).
The only other two drivers who aren’t at five-figure odds are George Russell (+2800) and Lance Stroll (+6600). Full betting can be found below in our F1 odds table.
If we’re looking for a race winner, it’s just impossible to look beyond the Red Bulls. But we’re looking for a value bet – meaning there’s certainly no value in backing Max Verstappen.
Unless a Red Bull retires or gets involved in a racing incident, it seems certain one of their drivers will win though. So, what do we do?
For a start off, we think it is worth a small bet on Sergio Perez. Max Verstappen won’t win every race this season. And when he doesn’t win, the most likely candidate to do so is his teammate. So at Las Vegas odds of +450, we make Sergio Perez our opening betting pick to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Elsewhere, and who else might be worth picking to win if both the Red Bulls fail?
Well, 12 months ago, this race was a disaster for Ferrari. Carlos Sainz retired on lap 8, and Charles Leclerc only made it as far as lap 21. And with Ferrari already struggling badly this year, it’s no wonder Leclerc is +2500, and Sainz is +2800 to win in Baku.
Alonso might be worth a small wager
What of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton? Well, Fernando Alonso has certainly had a decent start to the 2023 season, and he already looks the best of the rest outside of the Red Bulls. The two-time world champion is +1200 to win in Baku, and he has three podium finishes (all third place finishes) from his three races so far this season.
As for Lewis Hamilton, he has finished 5th, 5th, and 2nd so far this season. But as things stand, we see his Mercedes car as inferior to the Aston Martin. So for our second pick to win this race, we are going for Fernando Alonso.
Please bear in mind that as long as Max Verstappen is fit to walk to his car in Baku on April 30th, the chances are he will win the race. These are alternative bets that offer more value for money. So bet carefully and with plenty of caution.
