The welcome idea of MLS three-way betting does put fear into this bettor. Philadelphia goes up against Inter Miami at home on Wednesday night. Now, the problem is the “draw” of Philly. They are tied for the East lead with NY/NJ Red Bulls with 33 points. The problem is they have eight wins and a MLS-high nine draws. The good news is that the Union have only lost twice outright.
Now, ideally, there are just some teams that draw or play lower-scoring games than others. That is a fact of life in the MLS. Also, Inter Miami is even more futile offensively compared to Philadelphia. They average exactly one goal a contest. At least, Philly averages 1.61 goals per game and closer to two at home. It is not much to go on but this is better than most are giving them credit for.
So, the Union demolishing United the way they did had us thinking. Could they do something close to that again? Anything is possible. Letdowns are also at least on the radar.
Now, MLS Wednesday Picks 7/13 focuses on the following. Can Philly take advantage of that home cooking?
Some forget how much potential Philly has err the union when it comes to MLS. They were a team last year that easily could have won the title. Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Union ran into NYCFC at the worst time. This is a team that can shut opponents down and possesses enough offense to break out in the second half.
So the concern with the Union always will be what if the offense goes cold. Fortunately, Inter Miami loses often (eight times in regulation) and the last time they scored more than two goals was May 10th. That is over two months ago. Again, the over for Inter Miami is not a concern either. The team over for Philly given Inter’s -9 goal margin is intriguing along with the goal line.
Early on, Inter Miami felt like a more dicey matchup but their defense is too much of a concern. When the offense is clicking, they can outscore their problems. Sadly, playing up in Philly where the Union allow less than a goal per game is too tough. Those are two main reasons why the Philly Union are great for MLS Picks 7/13. Take the moneyline outright.
MLS Picks 7/13 focuses on another team who has struggled after doing well last year. That is the New York City FC. NYCFC expects to “play” up against FC Dallas on Wednesday night. This is mostly because so far this NYC team (who plays at Yankee Stadium) has shown not to be a fluke with nine wins, four losses, and five draws so far. Yes there is a risk because their draw probability (34%) is greater than their win probability (26%).
Now, Callens has been a big part in the success of NYCFC along with Taty Castallanos and Sean Johnson. It is this trio which gives us, at VegasBetting, hope to take a risk against a strong FC Dallas squad (7-5-7). This will not be an easy one but NYCFC is getting plus-money to win outright. Yes, Dallas is more of a favorite when it comes to an outright win (around +140). That seems crazy but FC Dallas has shown some better form lately.
For the MLS Picks 7/13, our pick is to take the NYCFC on Wednesday night. They possess good scoring chance numbers overall and their conversion rate is a good deal higher. Also, this New York City team leads the league in goals per game at just over 2 — a smidge ahead of Austin FC and LAFC. If any team has the ability to turn it on this night, it may be the team caught between the moon and New York City.
The easiest pick of the night may just be the Los Angeles FC to cause some tremors Wednesday against the San Jose Earthquakes. The LAFC averages two goals a game on the 2022 season and San Jose allows 37 goals. One good thing in all of this is that San Jose has managed 29 goals on offense.
A couple of risks to look at is one, the moneyline which is hovering around -160. The second, but more fascinating, are these two picks. The over is at three goals for teams who could easily score four or more times combined Wednesday night. That number is at -128. Even the goal line at -1 is an intriguing +100. Our MLS Wednesday picks on 7/13 says take the over and the Los Angeles moneyline.
Yes, July moves along, and the sports world clicks on. For starters, there are some excellent online golf betting sites as “The Open” starts on Thursday morning.
Once more, this is the time of the year to take a look at other MLS teams. That will help a bettor get the feel of who has been good and not quite so good. Teams are again starting to play on more of these longer slates.
Finally, do not completely forget about the MLB and NASCAR as well. These summer sports do not slow down.
