It didn’t take long for Max Verstappen to bounce back from his Round 3 Melbourne setback. After the world champion’s first retirement in two years, he responded as he knows best, with yet another comprehensive win by coasting to victory in Round 4 at Suzuka.
Furthermore, his teammate Sergio Perez finished second, ensuring any doubts about the performance of Red Bull could be quickly put to bed.
Again, Ferrari looked like the second-strongest team on the grid. Sainz and Leclerc claimed positions three and four. This after their one-two in Melbourne. And if the betting is to be believed, they will be the biggest threat to Red Bull again this weekend in Shanghai.
Betting to win the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix
After his third win of the season in Suzuka, the best Formula 1 Las Vegas betting sites have Max Verstappen as the favorite in the betting to win in Shanghai.
The triple-world champion is -500 to take the checkered flag and win his fourth race of the season on Sunday. Ahead of Suzuka, Verstappen was also -500. But the difference was that this came immediately after his retirement on lap four in Melbourne.
Sergio Perez is second in the betting at +900. He has been slightly trimmed after his second-place finish in Japan, where he started the race at +1100.
Consistency seems to be the biggest enemy of Perez. Sandwiched between his second-place finishes in Saudi Arabia and Japan is a disappointing fifth-place finish in Australia, where he finished over 56 seconds behind winner Carlos Sainz.
The two Ferrari drivers are both +1400. A slight cut in their odds of +1600 to win in Japan. There has also been a slight change behind Leclerc and Sainz, as Lando Norris has seen his pre-race odds of +2500 in Japan eased out to +3300 for Shanghai.
Also on the drift are Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton, and George Russell. All three drivers are +4000. They were all +3300 ahead of Suzuka.

Betting to win the Drivers’ Championship with and without Verstappen
Moving on, and in the betting to win the Drivers’ Championship without Verstappen, Sergio Perez is now into -225 after his second-place finish in Japan. Behind Perez in the betting is Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, both at +450.
The bookmakers currently see this as a three-horse race market as Lando Norris is +4000, Oscar Piastri is +8000, and check this out – Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are both +15000. That’s a damning indictment on Mercedes.
Elsewhere, in the betting to win the Drivers’ Championship, Max Verstappen is -2000. And to win the Constructors Championship, Red Bull is -2500.
Our Pick to win the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix
The general feeling after Red Bull’s poor showing in Australia was that it was just a blip. They confirmed that was the case with a one-two finish in Japan.
It’s hard to predict anything other than another win for current world champion and championship leader Max Verstappen in China.
The Chinese Grand Prix sees the first Sprint Race of the 2024 F1 season. Max Verstappen is -400 to win the Sprint, with Perez, Leclerc, and Sainz at +1000. And there are some even bigger odds behind the two leading teams, with Lando Norris at +3300 and Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton, and George Russell at +4000.
We believe the Sprint represents a better chance for a shock. Lando Norris has been in good form this season, so why not back him to win the Sprint at odds of +3300?
Elsewhere, and in the matchups to win the Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is -500 against the rest of the field, who is +350.
We feel this could be the best route to follow. It’s either that or no bet if you don’t want to bet on Max Verstappen to win the race when his odds are always so short.
Another bet worth considering this weekend is Carlos Sainz for a top-two finish at +210. Sainz has better odds than his teammate Charles Leclerc (+137). If the inconsistent Perez is having an off-week again, then one of the Ferreri’s is the most likely to benefit, and Sainz has outperformed Leclerc all season.
With the Spaniard out of a job at the end of the season, there is also a good chance he won’t follow team orders if they instruct him to let Leclerc through.
