F1 stays in Europe this weekend for the iconic 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. Max Verstappen is the favorite to win again. But after another hotly contested race with Lando Norris last weekend, the triple world champion is no longer sure to win simply by getting around the circuit. In our latest Formula 1 betting picks, we tell you if the Dutchman is worth backing to win again this Sunday.

The big picture
Max Verstappen will be looking for his third Monaco Grand Prix win when the cars line up for the race on Sunday.
The Dutchman claimed his fifth win of the current season with his hard-fought victory at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last Sunday. But it wasn’t the usual procession we are used to seeing with a Verstappen win.
Lando Norris won his first race of the season in Round 6 at Miami. In doing so, he scored the first win over Verstappen in a straight race since Carlos Sainz beat him in Singapore in 2023. Okay, the victory for Norris was slightly aided by the safety car. But with or without the intervention, the McLaren was too quick for Verstappen to catch in his Red Bull.
Onto Round 7 in Italy, and from pole position, Max Verstappen established a healthy lead across the first two-thirds of the race. But again, Lando Norris gave the triple-world champion a real race. After reeling in the Dutchman in the latter stages, Norris finished second, less than one second behind Verstappen.
If the race had gone on for another couple of laps, it could well have been back-to-back wins for Norris.
All of a sudden, the Red Bull car doesn’t look invincible. Yes, Verstappen still managed the win. But if the season carries on in this manner, he will not win every race.
The pole position will be crucial in Monte Carlo this Sunday. The tight road circuit makes it almost impossible to overtake, meaning Verstappen can’t afford any slip-up, and his team’s tactics will have to be spot-on this weekend. Otherwise, Norris could be standing on the top of the podium for the second time in three races.
Betting to win the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix
History tells us that Red Bull likes this circuit. They’ve won this race in four of its last five runnings, including the last three. Verstappen took the checkered flag in 2021 and 2023, and Perez in 2022.
Red Bull were dominant in 2022 and 2023. So that statistic has to come with a caveat.
Furthermore, Max Verstappen was -700 to win in Miami (Norris was +2000). Then after struggling early in the weekend in Italy, the Dutchman started the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix as the favorite at -250 (Norris was +285).
This weekend, Max Verstappen is the favorite to win the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix at -150. His closest rivals to win the race are Charles Leclerc at +550 and Lando Norris at 600.
Showing how much they have closed the gap on Red Bull, McLaren No.2 driver Oscar Piastri is the fourth favorite at +1200. He is just ahead of Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz, who sit at +1400.
Betting to win the Drivers’ Championship with and without Verstappen
Elsewhere, in the betting to win the Drivers’ Championship, Max Verstappen is still the favorite at -10000. The bookies had him at these odds ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, and despite the win for Norris, they still think Verstappen is sure to make it four championships in a row.
Lando Norris is second in the betting at +4000, with Charles Leclerc at +5000.
In the betting without Verstappen, Sergio Perez is slightly edging Lando Norris. Perez is now out to +175, with Norris second at +200 and Charles Leclerc at +225. This is now definitely a live market.
Our Pick to win the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix
In team betting to win the race, any Red Bull to win is the favorite at -200. Ferrari and McLaren are both +350. So despite the excellent form of Lando Norris, the bookmakers think both the Ferraris are in the running this weekend.
Elsewhere, in the race matchups, Max Verstappen is -150 against the rest of the field. For a bet on anybody other than Verstappen, you can get +120.
And with uncertainty about who is the most likely team to challenge Verstappen this week, a bet on the field against the Dutchman looks the way to go.
The Red Bulls can now not afford any mistakes, meaning they have to get their tactics (pit stops and tires) spot on, and they also know that they have to be on the ball in qualifying as well, as they know how vital pole position is this weekend.
Verstappen has been excellent in recent weeks in qualifying. Even after a slow start in Italy, he still landed the pole position, his record-breaking eighth in succession. But he can’t be perfect every time.
