Chelsea vs Liverpool – 2022-23 Premier League campaign
When: Tuesday, April 4th
Where: Stamford Bridge, London
Tuesday brings a tantalizing Premier League fixture as Chelsea will be looking to begin the post-Graham Potter era in a positive manner as they welcome Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to the iconic Stamford Bridge in London. The kick-off is scheduled for 3 PM ET. The Blues are fresh off a dismal 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday and just a day later, Potter was sacked. As for the Reds, they also lost on the weekend by a score of 4-1 to Manchester City, despite Erling Haaland not playing due to injury. Find the Chelsea vs Liverpool prediction below.
There is no clear-cut favorite here, but Chelsea has slightly better odds at +145 at Bovada online sportsbook. Liverpool meanwhile, sits at +180 and a draw is priced at +250.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last five meetings with the Blues, with three of those matches ending level. The reverse fixture in January was a scoreless stalemate.
Chelsea in Poor Shape Domestically
One could argue that Potter should’ve never been hired in the first place to take over for Thomas Tuchel, who recently said he was caught off guard by his sacking late last year. Now, the German is occupying the Bayern Munich dugout, while Chelsea just let go of Potter after a miserable seven months at the helm.
While the Blues are into the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where they will face title-holders Real Madrid, this club is in utter shambles domestically. Chelsea owns a 10-8-10 record in Premier League action and now sits in the 11th spot after another atrocious result a few days ago.
By no surprise, the Blues struggled immensely to find the end product in the final third against Villa, registering a total of 27 shots, yet just eight found the target. The Lions, on the other hand, scored their only two attempts on goal. Things can’t get much worst for Chelsea right now, but another loss Tuesday would surely put them in an even deeper hole. Considering their recent track record against Liverpool, a defeat or draw is the most likely outcome. Unless the attack can finally wake up and bang in some goals.
Liverpool Not Exactly Thriving Either
It’s difficult to comprehend that two European giants like Liverpool and Chelsea are so far down the table this term. But, the Merseysiders are slightly better than their London rivals, just one point off a Europa spot and eight behind Manchester United, who occupy the final UCL placing.
Unfortunately, Klopp’s men come into this clash in very poor form, tasting defeat in three straight appearances. Bournemouth snatched three points on March 11th before Real Madrid officially eliminated the Reds from the Champions League at the Round of 16 stages. Then on Saturday in Liverpool’s first game since the international break, City ran riot on them.
Liverpool took the lead early through Mo Salah, but it was all downhill. The Cityzens netted three times in just 26 minutes to take a stranglehold before Jack Grealish added a fourth in the 74th minute. Just like Chelsea, the Reds are in desperate need of a victory here. Just two losses in their last 13 meetings with the Blues dating back to September of 2018 certainly bodes well for a positive result at The Bridge.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Prediction
It’s hard to back Chelsea, even though Liverpool isn’t exactly winning lately. That’s why I’m taking the Reds to collect a vital three points on the road as the Blues get accustomed to their new interim manager.
