F1 returns this weekend with Round 19 from Austin at the Circuit of the Americas. Lando Norris won the last race in Singapore and is the betting favorite to back that up with another win in the 2024 United States Grand Prix. We tell you if he will do it in our latest Formula 1 betting picks.
Lando Norris won his third race of the season with a stunning victory in Round 18 in Singapore.
That was the final race before the latest three-week break, and when the season resumes this weekend only six races remain in 2024.
The win saw Norris close the gap on Verstappen at the top of the Drivers’ Championship. Verstappen still leads the way on 331 points.
Norris is second with 279 points. The gap is now down to 52 points.
Red Bull has used the three-week break to introduce upgrades to its car. But are these upgrades being brought in to take on Norris, or simply attempt to arrest the slide and see Verstappen try and win enough points to hold onto his lead in the Drivers’ Championship?
The chances that Red Bull can make up the 20+ seconds on Norris that he beat Verstappen by in Singapore is remote in such a short space of time. So it will be interesting to see what Red Bull’s strategy will be in Austin.
In the latest betting to win the Drivers’ Championship, Verstappen is still the favorite. The Dutchman is -175 to win a fourth successive title. Lando Norris is the second favorite at +135. The days when we were seeing betting without Verstappen are now long gone.
Over in the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren leads the way with 516 points. Red Bull are second with 475 points.
In the betting, McLaren is now -1400. Red Bull is +800.
The problem for the defending champions is that they only have Max Verstappen contributing. McLaren has Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri consistently finishing in the top four or five every week.
In recent races, Lando Norris was +120 to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and +175 to win the Singapore Grand Prix. This weekend Norris is +100 to win the US Grand Prix.
His reduced odds are a result of his dominant display at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore.
The second favorite to win in Austin is Max Verstappen at +450. The Dutchman is just holding off Oscar Piastri, the third favorite at +500.
Max Verstappen finished second in Singapore. Such was the dominant performance of Norris, Verstappen and Red Bull’s improved showing may well have been slightly overlooked.
Elsewhere, Charles Leclerc is fourth in the betting at +650. Leclerc has managed top-five finishes in his last six races. Included in that run are four podium finishes, one of which was a win at Monza.
Carlos Sainz, George Russell, and Lewis Hamilton are all +1600. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez is +5000.

We already know that Red Bull has introduced new upgrades to their car ahead of the final quarter of the season.
It’s not known if McLaren has. And although standing still in this sport is the equivalent of going backward, no one would blame them for just carrying on as they are for the remainder of the season.
Elsewhere, Ferrari and Mercedes are also introducing upgrades to their cars ahead of the US Grand Prix. Both teams have previously had mixed results this season after upgrades, so it remains to be seen what, if any, impact the latest changes to the respective cars will make.
One thing we do know is that Lewis Hamilton has a good record on this circuit. The seven-time World Champion has finished second to Verstappen at this venue for the last three seasons.
Hamilton didn’t get the points in 2024. This was because he was disqualified for a minor infringement that had little impact on the race outcome. But on the day, he still managed to finish second on the track.
As a result of Hamilton’s impressive form at this circuit and his obvious liking for it, we are backing the British driver to finish on the podium.

For our race winner, we simply have to go with Lando Norris.
The McLaren driver has greatly matured in recent races. He seems to have learned from the incident in Austria that saw him crash out of the race when he had a coming together with Max Verstappen while attempting to overtake the Dutchman.
Yes, Verstappen was at fault that day, but Norris played into his hands. Those types of incidents now seem to be a thing of the past for Norris. The young British driver is learning on the job.
