Here are some of the main headlines of the championship:
Seventh final to feature two teams from the same association.
First all-English Champions League final since 2008.
First final since 2013 to not feature at least one Spanish team — with Barcelona and Real Madrid having shared the previous five titles.
Final played for the first time at Atletico Madrid’s new 67,000-seat Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
“It is going to be an amazing final between two English teams that for sure we are going to enjoy,” Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said after his team’s dramatic victory in the semifinals.
Champions League Final Odds Explained
The Reds (-105) are overwhelming favorites on theChampions League Winner Odds, while the Hotspurs (+264) have never won this tournament’s title. A draw (+230) in regulation time is also available for betting on the money line.
The higher a number after a minus sign, the less profit a bettor makes on that team. The number after the minus sign always indicates the amount of money needed to wager to earn a $100 profit. For Liverpool, a bettor must wager $105 to earn a $100 profit ($105 bet + $100 profit = $205 total return).
The higher a number after a plus sign, the more profit a bettor makes on that team. The number after the plus sign always indicates the amount of profit a bettor makes on a $100 bet. For Tottenham, a bettor must wager $100 to earn a $264 profit ($100 bet + $264 profit = $364 total return).
Since a plus sign is in front of the odds for a tie, that’s how much profit a bettor makes based on a $100 bet ($100 bet + $230 profit = $330 total return).
Other popular bets in Champions League Odds include the spread and over/under totals. The odds are deadlocked at -110 in the spread where Liverpool (-0.5 goals) must win outright in regulation. If a bettor chooses Tottenham (+0.5) and takes the spread, the Spurs must win or tie in regulation time.
The line on the over/under totals is 2.5 goals. That means the total score for both teams in regulation must be two goals or less for the under (-115) to win or three goals or more for the over (-105) to win.
There will also be prop bets offered on top-ranked online sites like Bovada as the kickoff approaches for the final.
Road to the Championship
The Champions League journey started in September 2018 for these teams. By February, both clubs were winning in the Group of 16. Fast forward to May this year and both teams were in serious trouble of advancing into the championship.
Barcelona trounced Liverpool 3-0 in the first game of the two-leg semifinal match before an incredible turnaround in the second. The Reds ran wild in the deciding game, and they did it without injured stars Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum each scored twice as Liverpool advanced to the final 4-3 on aggregate, making it the club’s second straight appearance in the championship after losing last year to Real Madrid 3-1.
“Last year, we really felt we have to go back,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said. “We have to go back, we cannot let it stand like this, that’s not possible.”
The road to the title game was just as thrilling for Tottenham which lost the first semifinal match 1-0 to Ajax and trailed 2-0 in the second game before Lucas Moura’s stunning second-half hat trick lifted the Spurs to victory.
“It’s difficult with words to describe my feelings and my emotions, I think everything was amazing,” the team’s manager said.
Tottenham also upset the odds when knocking out Manchester City at the last-eight stage, so they can’t be taken lightly even though the team has never reached a Champions League final.
Champions League Final Prediction
Both teams have players capable of punishing defenses, but the Reds have the edge after they beat the Spurs twice in the Premier League. Both games ended 2-1 — at Wembley Stadium back in September and at Anfield in March.
Liverpool have won four, drawn two, and lost one of their last seven meetings with Tottenham. Both teams have scored in seven of the last eight encounters as well.
Liverpool has won 13 of its last 14 competitive matches, while Tottenham has lost five of its last eight games in all competitions and won just twice. They also lost a remarkable 13 times in the Premier League this season.
Liverpool’s Salah missed the second leg against Barcelona with a concussion, while fellow striker Firmino sat out with a groin issue. The club expects to have a fully fit lineup for the final which should prove too much for Tottenham to handle.
Pick — Liverpool (-105)
