Will the Austrian Grand Prix mark a return to form for MotoGP sensation Francesco Bagnaia? A funny thing happened on the way to the finish line in the the last race of the series, the British Grand Prix. Bagnaia didn’t get there first.
It was fellow Italian rider Enea Bastianini who would be the winner at Silverstone. That outcome was bringing to an end the four-race winning streak of Bagnaia, who finished third.
At the same time, second-place finisher Jorge Martin was slipping past Bagnaia into the overall MotoGP series lead for the 2024 season.
Oddsmakers aren’t sensing a trend developing here, however. The betting line is out for the Austrian Grand Praix and it’s Bagnaia who is being set as the +125 favorite to win the race. Let’s check out the latest MotoGP online betting odds for this race:

Saturday qualifying will be followed by the 10-lap sprint, with the 20-lap main event race set for Sunday at 8 a.m. EST around the 10-turn, 2.63-mile Red Bull Ring. Remember, the odds could change based upon the results of the qualifying round and the sprint race, so it’s always wise to track the early outcomes and see which riders are holding hot hands and are the best for you to bet.
Do not forget these Vegas betting site bonuses, as another two-week break is in store prior to the September 1 Gran Premio de Aragon.
Aside from his ultra-successful 2024 MotoGP campaign, which has seem him win four of the last five races, along with a pair of sprints, there are other betting trends at work here than are also conspiring to make the Italian rider the chalk for this race.
Bagnaia has won the past two Austrian Grand Prix events. Ducatis tend to be money at the Red Bull Ring as well. Ducati riders have won all but one race there since 2016.
Reigning world champion Bagnaia will be looking to bounce back from what was for him very much an off weekend at Silverstone. The star of the Ducati Lenovo Team crashed out in the Sprint. Grabbing a podium place in the main race was a nice rebound, but Pecco was only good enough to finish third on Sunday.
Spanish rider Martin had squandered a 39-point lead atop the MotoGP season series standings. While Bagnaia was on his roll, the Spaniard could often be found rolling around the course.
At the German Grand Prix, Martin was leading with two laps to go when he crashed out of the race to be finishing in 21st. Racing around Silverstone, Martin was again out front late in the race. However, he was guility of overbraking into a turn and going wide, allowing Bastianini to dip inside of him for the lead and ultimately, the win.
That’s been a criticism of Martin for years, that he too often beats himself in races. Now that he’s back out front by three points (241-238) for the season, will be able to hold off Bagnaia this time?
Multiple world champion Marc Marquez, who’s riding a 2023 Ducati, believes the 2024 factory Ducatis can be beaten on certain tracks. Is there anything to suggest it could happen in the Austrian Grand Prix?
Well, since 2016, the only non-Ducati team to win on this circuit is KTM in 2021. That was with South African rider Brad Binder. You can access a betting line as high as +1600 on Binder to win this race. He was second to Bagnaia in last year’s race.
No one had Bastianini on their radar as a winner at Silverstone. Then again, he is third in the overall drivers’ standings. And he does ride a factory Ducati.
Martin’s only win in the Austrian Grand Prix was in the Moto2 division in 2021. In 2023, the Spaniard finished seventh in this race.
Bagnaia not only won the race for the second year in a row, he won everything in sight. He also captured pole position, won the Saturday sprint and turned the fastest lap of the race.
In short, the Italian was dominant. Bet against him at your own risk.
