Oddsmakers are seeing history repeating itself in the MotoGP San Marino GP. A year ago, series leader Francesco Bagnaia was coming to San Marino after crashing out of the previous race in Spain. Yet he was favored to rebound right back to the front and race to the checkered flag in victory.
Last year, that race was the Catalan GP. This year, Bagnaia was also involved in a crash in a Spanish race. This time it was the Gran Premio De Aragon. Winding up in a collision with Alex Marquez, he ended up retiring from the race, finishing 18th.
Yet despite that mishap and the fact the accident was resulting in him surrendering the season’s lead to Jorge Martin, the betting line for the San Marino GP is showing Bagnaia as the +125 chalk.
Let’s check out the latest MotoGP online betting odds for this race:
San Marino GP Odds | |||
---|---|---|---|
Francesco Bagnaia | +125 | +125 | +125 |
Jorge Martin | +300 | +300 | +300 |
Marc Marquez | +400 | +400 | +400 |
Enea Bastianini | +450 | +450 | +450 |
As much as those who are writing the betting lines were bullish on Bagnaia last year, ultimately he wasn’t delivering the goods. Although the Italian rider would turn the fastest lap in the race, it was in fact Aleix Esparago who would go on to win the 2023 San Marino GP.
In this season’s race, following Saturday qualifying will be the 13-lap sprint. The 27-lap main event race set for Sunday at 8 a.m. EST around the 16-turn, 2.26-mile Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli layout. Remember, the race odds could be changing based upon the results of the qualifying round and the sprint race. That’s why it’s always wise to track the early outcomes. You’ll be able to see which riders are holding hot hands and are the best for you to bet.

Even though he didn’t win last year’s race, Bagnaia was champion of the San Marino GP in 2021 and 2022. That would certainly appear to stand him in good stead as he seeks a third title on this circuit, as well as a series single-season record eighth victory.
The crash at Aragon marked the first time since the second race of the season in Portugal that an incident was forcing Bagnaia to retire from a race. At one point this season, he won four races in succession. The Aragon outcome also meant that the Italian rider was surrendering the overall series lead. With 276 points, he’s now trailing Spaniard Martin by 23 points.
Racing is all about going fast. However, there’s also that old adage about to the steady goes the race. Jorge Martin is offering proof of that saying holding some substance. He’s now the -120 chalk to win the championship in MotoGP futures.
The Spaniard didn’t take advantage of Bagnaia’s misfortune in Aragon by winning the race. Martin would finish second for the fifth race this season. That’s the most runner-up performances by any rider on the circuit.
Martin is only showing two wins on his race card in 2024, at Portugal and France. Since that win at Le Mans, the Spanish rider has finished no worse than third in every race but one.
For the first time in 1,043 days, Marc Marquez found himself atop a podium following a MotoGP race. The legendary Spanish rider and eight-time MotoGP series champion won at Aragon.
He’s third in the overall season standings. That’s proving to be an impressive performance, considering that Marquez is riding a 2023 model Ducati. Both Bagnaia and Martin are aboard brand-new factory Ducatis.
Not only did he win the race, Marquez also took pole position and won the Saturday sprint for a perfect weekend performance. Marquez has been saying that if everything were to go right, he’d be able to put a beating on the factory Ducatis. However, expecting it to happen two races in a row is unlikely.
Bagnaia’s Ducati Lenovo teammate and also up on a factory Ducati, every so often, Enea Bastianini shows he’s got what it takes to run at the front of the MotoGP circuit. He was the winner of the British Grand Prix. He’s also recorded two seconds and two thirds this season.
However, Bastianini wound up fifth at Aragon and that’s been his issue this year. He’s wildly all over the board from race week to race week. It was the sixth time this season he’s been missing from the podium. Those erratic performances make it a challenge to bet the Italian rider.
Marquez shows three San Marino GP wins, but none since 2019. Bagnaia has those back-to-back wins in 2021 and 2022.
However, it’s series leader Martin who won last year’s San Marino GP. At some point, Martin’s consistency from week to week must be again rewarded in a victory performance. What better race for it to happen in than one where he’s previously found his way to taking a checkered flag?
