The F1 roadshow stops off in Montreal this week for Round 9 of the 2023 season. Max Verstappen has started to pull away from the rest of the field now, and he won’t want to ease off in the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. Can he win at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and make it four wins in a row? Here we tell you what we think, in our latest Formula 1 betting picks.
After wins in Miami, Monaco, and most recently Barcelona, Max Verstappen has really confirmed his superiority in the 2023 Driver’s Championship.
The Red Bull driver now has 170 points in the driver’s championship, that’s a lead of 53 points over his closest – and now distant – rival, Sergio Perez, who has 117 points.
Behind the two Red Bulls, things seem to be hotting up. Lewis Hamilton finished second in Round 8 in Barcelona, and he is now closing in on Fernando Alonso. Alonso was rightly praised after his magnificent second-place finish in Monaco in Round 7.
But after the race in Spain, where Alonso could only manage a disappointing seventh, the Aston Martin driver now only holds a 12 points lead over Hamilton. Alonso is still in third on 99 points, but Hamilton is ready to pounce, sitting just behind on 87 points.
Betting to win the Championship without Max Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton’s second-place finish in Barcelona came after some significant upgrades were carried out to his Mercedes car.
Okay, so he still finished 24 seconds behind Max Verstappen, and with the Dutchman at odds of -5000 to win this third world title in a row, there is no suggestion that Hamilton is going to be challenging him again any time soon.
But in the market to win the championship without Max Verstappen, it has had an impact. Sergio Perez is still the favorite, but he’s seen his odds drift again after Barcelona.
Ahead of Round 8, Perez was -500. He is now just -350. And behind Perez, there has also been a significant change. Fernando Alonso has now been replaced as the second favorite by Lewis Hamiton. Hamilton, who was +1200, finds himself as the +300 second favorite, with Alonso now the third favorite at +850.
Betting to win the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix
In recent weeks we’ve seen Max Verstappen at +115 to win in Monaco. He was then -240 to win in Barcelona, and this weekend he is -300 to win in Montreal. The best Formula 1 betting sites can’t see past another win for the double-world champion.
His closest rival in the betting to win this weekend is again his teammate Sergio Perez at +700. This is a significant change in the odds on Perez, who has been as short as +300 in some races in recent weeks. It shows how the Mexican has fallen off the pace in recent weeks.
Elsewhere, and the third favorite to win the race this week is Lewis Hamilton at +1200. Hamilton seems to have replaced Fernando Alonso on the back of his second place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on June 4th.
Alonso is fourth in the betting at +1600. That puts him ahead of George Russell at +2000, and Charles Leclerc at +3300.

The 2022 Canadian Grand Prix was dominated by Red Bull. The race was won by the current championship leader, Max Verstappen. The Dutchman also was in pole position.
Second on the day was Carlos Sainz, who also recorded the fastest lap, with Lewis Hamilton completing the podium in third place.
Moving onto this year, we know that his circuit suits Max Verstappen and his Red Bull. But at odds of -300, is there any appetite for backing Max Verstappen to win again? Yes, he will no doubt win his fourth race of the year, and if you wish to back him, that’s understandable. But if you don’t, here are our alternative picks.
We’ve seen an upgrade at Mercedes, and the car’s performance in Barcelona was encouraging. So for a little side wager, we’re going for Lewis Hamiton to win the Canadian Grand Prix at +1200. The Brit is due a win, and with Verstappen too short, and Perez out of form, a bet on Hamilton could be good value.
But, working on the theory that Max Verstappen will win the race, we need another alternative bet. And again, we’re looking at the Mercedes man.
In Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton finished second on the podium. And he’s decent-looking odds at +100 to stand on the podium again this weekend. If the upgrades continue to be effective on the Mercedes car, then a top-three finish for Hamilton looks like a good possibility.
Therefore, we’re happy to make a top-three finish for Lewis Hamilton in the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix, our final betting pick.
