One of the greatest tennis players of all time, Rafael Nadal, has officially announced that he will be withdrawing from the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell because of a stress fracture that he sustained during the Indian Wells Master a month ago. The event is set to take place on Sunday, April 17th. It will last until the 25th of April.
The initial diagnosis came from Dr. Cotorro,
“Dr Cotorro revealed that the 35-year-old was diagnosed with “a stress crack in the third left costal arch”.
“We’re going to adapt the work in function of the pain. For now, the priority is to remove the pain.
“Once the pain’s removed, we’ll be working as much as we can. With this in mind and the evolution it has, we’ll see if we can shorten the time… although the 4-6 weeks is quite logical.”
Considering that Nadal is getting older in his career as he is 35 years old and is going to turn 36 in June, it makes sense why he is being cautious here. Also, rib stress fractures usually take three months to heal, and some people could even take up to six months.
After he lost to Taylor Fritz in the Indian Wells title match, Nadal told reporters that he was going to miss at least four to six weeks, which is why he’s not competing should be of no surprise to anyone.
An announcement was made on Tuesday that confirmed he was not going to play in the event.
“Rafa has just been withdrawn from the entry list in Barcelona,” Nadal’s team said in a statement on Tuesday. “We don’t know yet when he will be at his first tournament on clay this year. Hopefully, soon.
“He does the gym, but nothing that hurts him and therefore obviously not with the racket. He is still suffering from his ribs, and as expected when his injury was announced, he needs four to six weeks. We are at three, so logically he will not be able to play again in Barcelona.”
Although he is not going to be competing for this weekend in the Barcelona open, it is likely that he is going to participate in the Madrid Open. The Madrid Open is going to begin on April 26th and is going to run through the following Sunday, finishing on May 8th.
It is going to be interesting to see how he does play in Madrid. Considering that he is going to be fresh off an injury, it could be possible that he ends up performing much worse than many people are expecting him to.
There are going to be some of the best tennis players in the worldcompeting in Madrid. Nadal, who is currently the number one tennis player in the world should be competing, Dominic Thiem, the current number four player in the world will compete, and a few other players that are in the top 10 in the world.
Although the official tennis betting sites, like BetUS, don’t have the odds out yet, putting money on Dominic Thiem when the time comes is going to be a great move. He has played extremely well throughout the past few years, leading him to be ranked as high as number three in the world.
He has dropped in those rankings quite a bit just because he hasn’t played a ton in 2022, but if he comes out and does the things that we were used to seeing before this small break, he has a great chance of winning the event.
Putting money on Rafael Nadal could be a bit risky considering we aren’t going to know how he is going to perform after dealing with this injury. However, Nadal has won 21 Grand Slam men’s singles titles, which is the most in history, including a record 13 French Open titles throughout his career.
Nadal has also won 91 singles titles, including 36 Master titles. When looking at his resume, it would be tough to argue that any other tennis player in the world has ever had this type of success.
The Madrid Open is going to feature some of the best tennis players in the world, but if Nadal comes out and does the things that everybody has used to him doing, there should be no reason why he can’t win this event.
The next week or two before this event is going to be interesting. There haven’t been many other updates about Nadal and if he is going to be able to participate, but that should change sometime in the next few days. It is still possible that he is not going to be in this one that just to be cautious, but with him getting older, he might go out there and deal with some of the pain just to finish out his career.
