When checking the NHL betting lines at any of the leading Vegas sports betting sites, you’ll find that the Senators and Red Wings both are showing long odds in the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup odds. The winning team has scored at least five goals in six of the last eight games between these two teams when Ottawa was listed as the home team..
In the NHL picks, Ottawa is 4-1 straight up in the last five games and 6-2 SU through the past eight meetings with the Red Wings. The Senators are 9-2 SU in the past 11 home dates against Detroit.
On the one hand, the Red Wings are 5-2 SU in their last seven road games. Recency shows that they’ve lost two in a row away from home. And they are 1-5 SU in their last six meetings with Eastern Conference opposition.
Ottawa is 3-6 SU over the past nine games. The Senators are 1-5 SU in their last six games against teams from the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference.
The NHL picks show the last four Detroit vs Ottawa games have all gone under. At Ottawa, though, the over has come in through in seven of the last eight visits by Detroit.
Seven of Detroit’s last 10 games have gone over. Three of the last four road games played by the Red Wings also hit on the over.
Eleven of Ottawa’s last 12 games went over. As well, seven of the last eight home games played by the Senators saw the over pay on the total.
Ottawa is 17-13-4 SU as a betting favorite this season. The Senators are 10-19 against the puck line as a home team. Detroit is 17-12 against the puck line as a road team. The Red Wings are 20-23-4 SU when set as the underdog in the betting line.
Last season, a seven-game losing streak in February-March wound up derailing Detroit’s playoff hopes. Currently, the Red Wings are on an 0-5 slide that began on February 27. The latest setback on Friday at Washington saw Detroit blow a 2-1 lead, allowing four unanswered third-period goals in a 5-2 loss. Two of the Washington tallies were shorthanded goals.

Keeping the puck out of their net has proven a problem for the Red Wings. Detroit has allowed 41 goals over the past 10 games. At the same time, they’ve scored two goals or fewer in four of the five games during this losing streak.
Detroit acquired goalie Petr Mrazek and bottom-six forward Craig Smith from Chicago at Friday’s NHL trade deadline. Expect both to make their Red Wings debut in this game.
Back-to-back 4-3 wins over the New York Rangers and Chicago has the Senators rolling again and back in a playoff spot. They were 1-5 SU in six games prior to that. However, Ottawa does have points in each of the last four games (3-0-1).
A five-game win streak starting in late January had seen Ottawa briefly climb as high as third in the Atlantic Division.

— Everyday Sens (@EverydaySens) March 8, 2025
He finished the game with 17:27 TOI, a primary assist, 55.56 FOW% and 9 (!!) hits- a new career high.
Safe to say he's excited about being here. pic.twitter.com/A2XpKJC2Mn
Center Dylan Cozens, acquired Friday from the Buffalo Sabres, made his Ottawa bow in Saturday’s win over the Rangers. He was selected the game’s second star. Cozens cost the Senators defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker and 20-goal scorer Josh Norris.
This game holds huge playoff implications. Detroit sits out of the postseason with 66 points. The Columbus Blue Jackets (70) and Senators (69) hold down the two Wild Card playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.
The Senators generally utilize their size to impose their physical will on the Red Wings. The addition of Cozens only makes Ottawa a more imposing presence. He had a career-high nine hits in his Ottawa debut. Take the Senators over the Red Wings in the Monday Vegas NHL picks.
