What: Carolina Hurricanes at Philadelphia Flyers NHL Picks And Best Bets
When: Wednesday, November 20, 2024
There are five games on tap on the NHL schedule for Wednesday. We’ve checked the current NHL odds and selected the Carolina Hurricanes vs the Philadelphia Flyers as the best bet worth taking in the NHL picks. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s jump right into our betting prediction.
The Hurricanes have beaten the Flyers in each of their past three meetings. Even though they are the away team in this contest, oddsmakers are still setting the Canes as the -225 road favorites.
Puck Line | Moneyline | Total | |
---|---|---|---|
Carolina Hurricanes | -1.5 (+112) | -225 | O 6.5 (-103) |
Philadelphia Flyers | +1.5 (-133) | +185 | U 6.5 (-117) |
The Hurricanes are a top contender in the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup odds. They’ve certainly made short work of the Flyers in recent years. Overall, Carolina has won 11 of the last 12 games when facing Philadelphia.
Not only are the Hurricanes dominating the Flyers in the won-lost column, they have outscored Philly on average 3.6-2.5 goals per game over the past 10 games between the two teams.
There was a time in NHL history when trips to Philadelphia would prove to be a barren wasteland for visiting teams in terms of coming away with any hope of attaining victory. This development would be news to the Hurricanes. Carolina is 6-0 straight up in the club’s last six visits to the Wells Fargo Center.
Overall, the Hurricanes are 6-3 SU as a road team this season and 5-2 over the past seven away games. They are also 12-4 SU as a betting favorite in the NHL picks.
The Flyers are 4-2 SU in their past six games. However, one of those two setbacks was a 6-4 loss to the Hurricanes at Carolina on Nov. 5. The Flyers were held to a season-low 16 shots in that game. They’ve gone 4-0-1 since that loss. The Flyers are 6-14 in their past 20 meetings with Eastern Conference clubs.
The under has proven to be the winning play in four of the last five games between the Flyers and Hurricanes. However, Philadelphia has gone over in four of its past five games. On the flip side, four of Carolina’s last six games went under.
The Hurricanes welcomed back No. 2 goalie Pyotr Kochetkov following a brief absence due to an undisclosed injury. Frederik Andersen, their No. 1 puckstopper, is out long-term with a lower-body injury.
There’s also a goalie crisis right now in Philly. Samuel Ersson, the No. 1 goalie for the Flyers, is on IR with a lower-body injury. That’s leaving their puckstopping chores in the hands of inexperienced netminders Aleksei Kolosov and Ivan Fedotov.
Carolina center Martin Necas is one of the hottest scorers in the NHL at the moment. He’s carrying a 13-game point streak into Wednesday’s game. Necas has collected 10 goals and 17 assists over this 13-game span.
He’s leading the team with 11 goals and 30 points, which is nearly double that of Andrei Svechnikov, Carolina’s second-best point point producer with 16. Necas also tallied the game winner in Carolina’s Nov. 5 win over Philadelphia.
By contrast, Travis Konecny is the leading scorer for the Flyers. He’s scored 11 goals and added 12 assists for 23 points. Rookie Matvei Michkov, one of the leading candidates to win the Calder Trophy, is showing 6-9-15 totals.
It’s hard to find a stat in which Carolina doesn’t rank miles ahead of Philadelphia. The Hurricanes are fifth in goals scored (68), while Philadelphia is 21st (53). Carolina is the NHL’s eighth-best power play (23.7%). Philly’s power play is 19th (17.7%).
The Canes are fourth in goals against (41) and the Flyers are 27th (66). Only three teams have been assessed fewer penalty minutes than Carolina (134). Only two teams have been assessed more penalty minutes than Philadelphia (209).
It isn’t merely the head-to-head success that has us leaning toward Carolina over Philadelphia in this Wednesday NHL matchup. Overall this season, the Hurricanes are 13-4, while Philadelphia is 8-9-2.
Still, it’s hard not to focus on the success of the Canes in Philly. Carolina hasn’t lost a game at the Wells Fargo Center since March 5, 2020. Go with the Hurricanes in the moneyline over the Flyers in the Wednesday NHL picks.
