What: Green Bay Packers vs New York Giants – Week 14
Where: MetLife Stadium
When: Monday, December 11th, 8:15 PM EST
The Green Bay Packers will be looking to keep their playoff hopes alive and continue their three-game winning streak when they visit the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. The kick-off is scheduled for 8:15 PM EST at MetLife Stadium. Dolphins vs Titans will also be in action on MNF. Green Bay is coming off a massive win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13 as Jordan Love had another impressive game. The G-Men meanwhile beat the New England Patriots in Week 12 and had a bye last weekend. Despite sitting at 4-8, NY is enjoying a two-game unbeaten run. Below, find the Packers vs Giants picks.
The Packers are a clear -300 moneyline favorite on MNF. The Giants return at +250. Green Bay is also laying six points on the spread. While New York beat the Packers in 2022, GB won three in a row before that.
Packers Are on Fire
No one expected much out of Green Bay this season as they tried to figure out if Jordan Love was the long-term replacement for Aaron Rodgers. And after an average start, there were serious doubts about Love’s future. However, he’s really turned things around in recent weeks and it’s resulted in the team grabbing three consecutive victories. First, the Packers beat the Chargers before taking down the Lions on Thanksgiving. Then last week, Love propelled his squad to a shocking win over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
This was arguably one of his best games of the year, completing 25 of 36 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns. Christian Watson reeled in seven receptions for 71 yards and two scores, while AJ Dillon also had a standout performance at running back. Green Bay outgained Kansas City 382-337 and completely killed them downfield with 253 passing yards. In the spotlight on Sunday Night Football, Love made it clear he’s here to stay. He’s now thrown for at least 265 yards in four straight appearances with 10 passing touchdowns during that span. On the year, Love has 22 throwing TDs against 10 interceptions. Not bad.
The Packers still have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs if they keep it rolling. At 6-6, a Wild Card spot is very much possible. The Giants are a team Green Bay should definitely beat, but it’s important to note that Watson is out on Monday with an injury. That’s a big loss for this group because he is Love’s favorite and most reliable target. Expect a bigger workload for Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed, among others.
Lost Season For Giants
After signing Daniel Jones to a mammoth deal in the offseason, the hope was he could take them back to the playoffs. Instead, he suffered a neck injury and then a season-ending torn ACL in early November, quickly putting an end to the Giants’ season. But to be brutally honest, he wasn’t exactly flourishing, throwing more interceptions (6) than touchdowns (2) in six outings. A far cry from Danny Dimes’ standout 2022 campaign. Now, it’s rookie Tommy DeVito under center and he hasn’t done a whole lot, either.
The New Jersey native has only thrown for 697 yards in five games for seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Jones is still QB1, therefore when he’s back, DeVito will be a backup again. Plus, Tyrod Taylor is on the IR and was the second choice to Jones. So, DeVito may be back to third string. The youngster didn’t have to do much in Week 13, completing 17 of 25 passes for a touchdown against the Pats in an uninspiring 10-7 win. Both offenses were dismal and it showed in the scoreline.
The Giants are scoring a mere 13.3 points per game, which ranks 31st in the league. They’re also dead last in total yards and passing yards. The only reason New York is 17th in rushing yards is because of Saquon Barkley, who is having a respectable year with 4.2 yards per carry. There’s not much good about this New York team and the playoffs are definitely not happening. Monday is simply an opportunity to play spoiler and put a damper on Green Bay’s playoff dreams.
Packers vs Giants Picks
The Packers are rolling and Love should be able to pick apart the Giants’ defense, even without Watson. With the moneyline offering minimal value, take Green Bay to cover the spread. After all, they’re 7-5 ATS.
