For NFL fans, there are few things each year better than the Draft. Later this month, the best college football players will be ready to hear their names called. The expectation of course is that Trevor Lawrence will be the No. 1 overall pick. In this piece, we have our futures picks for the 2021 NFL Draft. It’s sure to be seven rounds of complete and total chaos.
When you’re ready to make your wagers on the NFL Draft, don’t even think about betting on anyone other than Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence to hear his name called first. Trevor Lawrence is the virtual lock to be selected No. 1 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. With Urban Meyer now as head coach of the team, he’s made it more than clear he loves Lawrence’s game.
It’s easy to understand why. Since he was a freshman and powered the Clemson Tigers to a National Championship, Lawrence has been in the No. 1 overall pick conversation. With Jacksonville in desperate need of a franchise quarterback as well, Lawrence is a no-brainer move with the top pick. His current NFL odds to be taken No. 1 by Jacksonville are at a mind-blowing -6000.

Other players in the mix to potentially get selected by the Jaguars are quarterbacks Justin Fields and Zach Wilson. However, Lawrence’s overwhelming odds tell you everything you need to know about who will be suiting up for Jacksonville next season. While Fields and Wilson would present great payouts, don’t touch those bets. Not with a 10-foot pole.
The Jaguars have plenty of excitement surrounding them right now, as Meyer is entering his first campaign as head coach. After failed QB experiments with Blake Bortles and Gardner Minshew, fans are ready for a true superstar quarterback to run the offense. That QB will be Trevor Lawrence. He’s 100 percent our pick to be the No. 1 pick this year.
With Lawrence expected to go No. 1 and Zach Wilson also a figurative lock to go No. 2 to the New York Jets, will the San Francisco 49ers select Mac Jones or Justin Fields at No. 3? This really is one of the more intriguing discussions being had leading up to the draft. Up until about a week ago, Jones felt like a shoe-in to head to San Francisco to suit up for Kyle Shanahan.
Oh, how things have changed. That’s because Shanahan, general manager John Lynch and other 49ers front office members were on hand for Fields’ non-televised Pro Day recently at Ohio State. Fields put on a show and the latest reports have stated that Shanahan loves his athleticism. At the same time, the 49ers are also big fans of Jones, who helped Alabama win the National Championship this past season.
As things stand, the Las Vegas sportsbooks have given Fields -140 odds to be picked No. 3 by San Francisco, while Jones is a slight underdog at +110. What it comes down to is who the 49ers think will be able to help them overtake the LA Rams and Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West for years to come. It has become quite clear that Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t the answer long term at quarterback. That was a failed experiment.
What makes Fields more intriguing are his dual-threat abilities. He’s the kind of player who can hurt you with his arm, but he’s also got great speed and can make plays with his legs. He’s got that advantage over Jones. Because of this, Fields is our pick to start his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers. We think he’ll hear his name called third once the NFL Draft arrives.
While there’s been plenty of discussion about quarterbacks in the NFL Draft, don’t forget for a second how important offensive linemen are for a team as well. With that said, the expectation is that Oregon’s Penei Sewell will be the first lineman taken in the first round. In other years, he very well could have been the No. 1 overall pick, but that won’t be the case due to the QB needs for teams at the top of the board.
Regardless of that, Sewell is still without question one of the best prospects in the draft, and in our opinion he’s the best offensive lineman. The massive offensive tackle is the kind of player that can completely change things for an offense, making life easier for a quarterback. He has -340 odds to be the first OL taken, while Rashawn Slater holds +230 odds.
Our pick is no question with Sewell to be the top OL selected. Again, if this was any other year, he’d be right in the No. 1 overall discussion. The Cincinnati Bengals hold the No. 5 pick and this could be a great move for them. Imagine adding another offensive tackle to help protect star quarterback Joe Burrow, who the team took No. 1 last year. Sewell to Cincy could very well happen. Regardless, if the Bengals pass, someone will jump at the chance to take him.
