What: Los Angeles Chargers vs Green Bay Packers – NFL Week 11
Where: Lambeau Field
When: Sunday, November 19th, 1 PM EST
The Los Angeles Chargers (4-5) will be looking to get back to .500 in Week 11 when they visit the Green Bay Packers (3-6) at Lambeau Field on Sunday. The kick-off is scheduled for 1 PM EST. LA is coming off a heartbreaking loss to the surging Detroit Lions in Week 10 after grabbing back-to-back wins prior to that. They will be hungry here. Green Bay meanwhile lost to Kenny Pickett and the Steelers by a score of 23-19. Below, find the Chargers vs Packers picks.
The Chargers are a road favorite at -170 moneyline odds. They’re also laying three points on the spread. The Packers come back at +150. Green Bay might be poor this season, but their dominance against Los Angeles is clear, winning 10 of the last 12 matchups. It’s important to note that Aaron Rodgers was under center, though.
Chargers Need This One
Sure, it’s only Week 11, but LA’s playoff hopes are slowly fading and things will look even more grim if they lose to Green Bay on Sunday. The Chargers have been inconsistent for most of the season, especially on the defensive end. They’ve allowed the most total yards and passing yards in the NFL. That’s not a recipe for success. On a more positive note, the offense has looked solid, ranking 11th in total yards, eighth in passing yards, and seventh in points with 26.6. QB Justin Herbert has thrown for 2,349 yards, 17 touchdowns, and just five picks. But, due to his poor offensive line, Herbert has been sacked 20 times.
The former Oregon standout certainly did his part to help Los Angeles upset the Lions on Sunday. He was 27 for 40 for 323 yards and four touchdowns. He linked up with Keenan Allen 11 times for 175 yards downfield, including two scores. However, Allen is day-to-day with a shoulder injury. That could be a devastating blow for the Chargers if he can’t play. Allen is Herbert’s favorite target.
While giving up 41 points is far from ideal, LA did play well here and had every chance to win this game. Dan Campbell’s bold fourth down calls ultimately set up Detroit for a game-winning field goal at the end of the fourth quarter. It’s clear that the Chargers’ defense will be their kryptonite in 2023 and will likely be the difference between them making the playoffs and not. Perhaps they can contain Green Bay this weekend, who doesn’t have an elite offense by any means.
Is Jordan Love The Answer?
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst recently said he’s not totally sold on Jordan Love being the QB of the future for Green Bay after Aaron Rodgers’ departure. That’s honestly a fair statement considering how Love has played. Although there have been some moments of brilliance, overall, the quarterback isn’t playing great. Love has completed only 58.7% of his passes for 14 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. He’s also fumbled the football four times. One clear bright spot from Love’s first full season as the starter is his ability to run the football though, rushing for 5.9 yards per carry including two scores.
Green Bay is clearly not making the playoffs, sitting in third place in the NFC North and going just 1-4 in their last five games. That includes a convincing win over the Rams while losing to the Raiders, Broncos, Vikings, and most recently, the Steelers. Love threw two picks in this one but also had two passing TDs. The Packers actually outgained Pittsburgh, but it didn’t matter.
It was a very close game that Green Bay was very much in, which has been the case for several contests throughout the campaign. Things just aren’t going their way. That being said, Love’s lack of chemistry with his wide receivers is proving to be a problem. Christian Watson had a mere two catches on seven targets in Week 10 and honestly has yet to really get involved enough in the offense since coming back from injury.
Chargers vs Packers Picks
The last time these two teams met in 2019, Phillip Rivers was still the Chargers QB and Rodgers was very much a Packer. Considering how shaky Love has looked, I simply can’t take Green Bay. Expect Herbert to produce the goods while the defense will come up with enough stops en route to victory.
