What: San Francisco 49ers vs Philadelphia Eagles – Week 13
Where: Lincoln Financial Field
When: Sunday, December 3rd, 4:25 PM EST
Get ready. Sunday afternoon brings a tantalizing matchup between two Super Bowl contenders who also met in the NFC Championship in January as the San Francisco 49ers head to the City of Brotherly Love to face the league-best Philadelphia Eagles, who own a 10-1 record at the moment. The kick-off at Lincoln Financial Field is scheduled for 4:25 PM EST. There’s already been trash talk between the teams ahead of the game, which only adds more fuel to the fire. San Fran grabbed a statement win against a divisional rival in the Seattle Seahawks on American Thanksgiving by a score of 31-13 and has now won three in a row. Philly brings in a five-game winning streak of their own and managed to beat the Buffalo Bills in OT last Sunday. Keep reading for the 49ers vs Eagles picks.
Despite the worst record, the Niners are a slim -157 moneyline favorite here while laying three points on the spread. San Francisco is just 6-5 ATS in 2023. The Eagles come back at +137 and own a 7-2-2 ATS record, which is tops in the NFL. The total meanwhile is set at 47.5. Expect points between two high-octane offenses with lots of weapons.
Massive Game For 49ers
It’s essentially a foregone conclusion San Francisco will end up winning the NFC West and march into the playoffs with their heads held high, but Sunday is an opportunity to show they can compete with the elite. Last season’s NFC Championship did not go the way the Niners would’ve hoped but in fairness, injuries killed them. That was the same game Brock Purdy hurt his elbow and at that point, Kyle Shanahan’s group had no hope of advancing to the Super Bowl. Needless to say, revenge is on their minds against an NFC foe who is an extremely good football team.
For the most part, the 49ers have been solid this year. They came out of the gates with five straight wins before losing three in a row to some pretty average teams. But, Purdy and Co. have bounced back, beating the Jags, Bucs, and Seahawks. In the process, San Fran has outscored their opponents by an average of 20.6 points. Not bad. Purdy is seriously proving that he is the answer at QB for many years to come, completing 70.2% of his passes for 2,871 yards and 19 touchdowns. He’s also thrown just six interceptions.
The weapons around him are endless, too. Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel are both Swiss Army knives and CMC is probably the best all-around offensive player in the league right now. He has 16 touchdowns overall and over 1,300 yards rushing and receiving combined. The Niners are third in total yards and third in points scored. Defensively, Nick Bosa and Chase Young anchor a daunting pass rush. In fact, San Francisco is allowing a league-low 15.5 points per game. We’ll see if they can contain Jalen Hurts and his offense. If so, this will be a win.
Another Dominant Year For Philly
The Eagles are phenomenal and their record reflects just that. Philadelphia’s only loss was honestly a huge surprise considering Zach Wilson was leading the Jets. Since then, however, the Birds haven’t just won five straight, they’ve taken down essentially all great teams, except for the Commanders. Philly beat the Dolphins, Washington, Cowboys, Chiefs, and the Bills.
Although Jalen Hurts isn’t having an MVP campaign again, he continues to get it done in the big moments. The signal-caller scored the game-winning TD in overtime against the Bills and also had two massive rushing TDs the week prior in a Super Bowl rematch. He’s now run for 11 TDs and 410 yards, proving to be one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the league alongside Lamar Jackson. The Eagles tied Buffalo late in the fourth last Sunday with a huge field goal from Jake Elliott to force OT, where Buffalo took the lead with an FG of their own. But, Hurts saved the day.
On paper, it’s hard to imagine how Philadelphia is this good. Their defense isn’t that great overall except against the run. Offensively though, the Birds rank top-10 in total yards and rushing yards while ranking top-three in points and third down conversation rate. With guys like DeVonta Smith, AJ Brown, D’Andre Swift, and Hurts, it’s no wonder the Eagles sit at the top of the NFL right now. This is their first time being a home underdog in two seasons. Philly hasn’t lost at home this year either, going 5-0.
49ers vs Eagles Picks
This is a very difficult one to call. But, the atmosphere at Lincoln Financial is a lot for opponents and the Eagles thrive in front of Birds fans. I have to take the Eagles to win their 11th game of the campaign. Hammer the moneyline.
