The Super Bowl is still a few months away but with the NFL heading into Week 10, it’s a perfect time to take a look at where things stand in the Super Bowl futures. By no surprise, the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs are the current frontrunner at +500, but the Philadelphia Eagles (+525) and the San Francisco 49ers (+550) are right on their heels. The Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, and Cincinnati Bengals are also considered contenders as the campaign reaches the midway point. Below, we’ll discuss how some of these top teams are doing at what their outlook is when it comes to reaching the Super Bowl.
No Tyreek Hill, no problem. As we saw last year, Patrick Mahomes was able to lead the Chiefs to Super Bowl glory without his top wideout, despite having minimal reliable targets outside of Travis Kelce. That’s the same situation in 2023, where the reigning MVP is balling out. Mahomes has completed 68.6% of his passes for 2,442 yards and 17 touchdowns against eight interceptions. KC’s offense is one of the best in the league and their defense is also solid as can be, allowing the second-fewest points per game at 15.9. This team is once again built for a deep playoff run and has every opportunity to win another ring as long as Mahomes and Kelce stay healthy. At 7-2, they’re first in the AFC West and just beat the Miami Dolphins in Week 9, another fantastic team. Most notably, the Chiefs’ defense was able to slow down the top offense in the NFL. That means something.
Philadelphia Eagles (+525)
The Eagles were unbeaten for most of last season and ultimately met up with the Chiefs in the Super Bowl but couldn’t overcome Mahomes and Co., despite Jalen Hurts playing the game of his life. In 23′, Philly is 8-1 and although Hurts is having a bit of a rocky campaign, this is still a very talented group in all facets. The Birds rank first in third-down conversation rate, second in points, and third in total yards. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith are a lethal WR duo while Hurts has still thrown for 2,347 yards. Defensively, Philadelphia isn’t as elite as in past years, but they have won three in a row, including a statement victory over the Cowboys in Week 9. The Birds have a bye in Week 10 and should win the NFC East again.
San Francisco 49ers (+550)
The 49ers were absolutely legit through Week 5, where they improved to 5-0 after putting a 42-10 beatdown on the Cowboys. But, things have gone downhill since then, losing three in a row to the Browns, Vikings, and Bengals. Is that a cause for concern? Possibly. However, you simply cannot ignore how well-rounded this team is, despite their recent struggles. Brock Purdy is proving to be the future at QB and he’s got a plethora of weapons around him including Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and others. Deebo did just miss time though, which undoubtedly played a part in some of these losses. San Francisco is tied with the Seahawks for first place in the NFC West and even with their cold skid, many believe the Niners are still a Super Bowl contender.
Baltimore Ravens (+850)
We always talk about the Ravens ahead of the playoffs but they always fail to live up to expectations, usually due to injuries. Lamar Jackson missed a ton of time last year and things took a turn for the worst, but he’s healthy as can be now and wreaking havoc. Baltimore has the best run offense in the league thanks to Lamar, who has rushed for 440 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also completed over 70% of his passes and is a big reason the Ravens are riding a four-game winning streak. If healthy, the 7-2 Ravens have every chance to be one of the teams fighting to get into a Super Bowl out of the AFC.
Super Bowl Futures Picks
It will get far too long if we discuss all the potential contenders, but the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, and Buffalo Bills, among others like the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars, are worth mentioning. Since the playoffs are still awhile from now, the best bet, especially with all these teams being at plus odds, is to bet on a few. To me, the Chiefs, Eagles, and 49ers stand out.
