Week 6 of the college football season is upon us, and here we have our latest NCAAF betting picks.
The three teams at the top of the betting, Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Ohio State, all won again last week, and all will be looking to extend their 5-0 records when they play again this weekend.
We’re using the Vegas odds supplied by BetUS this week, and they have Alabama Crimson Tide (+200) and Georgia Bulldogs (+200) as their joint favorites. The impressive-looking Ohio State is next at +225.
Full betting on who will win the 2023 NCAAF Championship can be found below.
All odds come from BetUS. You can find more information about this bookmaker in our BetUS sportsbook review.
Now let’s take a look at the top teams’ fixtures for this weekend and get ourselves some NCAAF picks.
Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) v Auburn Tigers (3-2)
First up, it’s the Bulldogs, who are hosting the Auburn Tigers.
The Bulldogs gave away a 28 points deficit on the handicap against the Missouri Tigers last weekend, and they never looked like getting near it. Trailing 19-12 at the end of the third quarter, the Bulldogs had to dig deep to win the final period 14-3, and eventually take the match 26-22.
But this certainly wasn’t what the doctor ordered. And it came on Kirby Smart’s team conceding 22 points at home the previous weekend to Kent State.
As for the Auburn Tigers, they started the season with two wins but have since lost two of their last three.
In those games, they have conceded 76 points (Penn State 41, Missouri 14, LSU 21).
What; Bulldogs v Tigers
Where; Sanford Stadium, Athens, Georgia
When; Saturday, October 8th, 2022
Time; 3.30 pm ET
Georgia is giving away 29.5 points on the handicap this weekend. BetOnline has both teams at -110. I think it’s too risky to back the Bulldogs, but at the same time, if they can click into gear, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them beat the spread.
But even so, I’m leaving the handicap market alone in this match and focusing on the total points market, where the spread is set at 49.5.
As bad as Georgia has been lately, their last three games (most recent first) have yielded 48, 61, and 55 points. I think with two sides who are better offensively at the moment, over 49.5 total points at -104 has to be the pick.
Michigan State Spartans (2-3) v Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0)
Next up is the Buckeyes, who travel northbound to take on the Michigan State Spartans.
The Spartans have lost their last three fixtures conceding a total of 100 points. And this after winning their opening two matches of the season.
As for Ohio State, they have both Miyan Williams and CJ Stroud flying at the moment. Ohio State’s running back, Williams, is arguably the top-performing one in the NCAAF this season.
What; Spartans v Buckeyes
Where; Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, Michigan
When; Saturday, October 8th, 2022
Time; 4 pm ET
The Buckeyes (-113) are giving away a massive 27 points on the handicap. With that start, BetOnline has the Spartans at -107.
On the total points spread, the line is drawn in the sand at 65.
The Spartans have lost their last three games by margins of 14, 27, and 11 (most recent first). While the Buckeyes have won their last three by margins of 39, 31, and 56.
I believe this makes a bet on the Buckeyes (-27) on the handicap worthwhile, and I’m making that my second pick this weekend.
Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0) v Texas A&M Aggies (3-2)
The final match we are looking at this weekend involves our old favorites, Alabama Crimson Tide.
Nick Saban’s team has continued to impress since their stuttering 20-19 win over Texas in Week 2.
Since that win (that almost felt like a defeat), Alabama has beaten LA Monroe 63-7, Vanderbilt 55-3, and Arkansas 49-26. All three wins are what we would expect from the Crimson Tide.
The Aggies visit the Bryant-Denny Stadium on the back of a disappointing 42-24 defeat at the hands of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Before that loss they had defeated Arkansas 23-21 at the AT&T in Week 4.
What; Crimson Tide v Aggies
Where; Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, Alabama
When; Saturday, October 8th, 2022
Time; 8 pm ET
Alabama will start from -24 on the handicap, with BetOnline pricing both teams up at -110. While the total points spread is set at 51. Again both sides of the bet are priced up at -110.
With home advantage, I’m going to go for Alabama to beat the handicap spread; they are my betting pick for this match.
But I also like the look of 51 points and I think that can be toppled. Yes, the Aggies will be a step up in class to what the Crimson Tide has faced over the past three weeks, but I still see 51 points being beaten.
