The 2022 MLB All-Star break is right around the corner and several teams have emerged as serious contenders to win the World Series. While the players are always going to get a lot of love, don’t forget about the efforts from skippers either. In this article, we have MLB picks for Managers of the Year in the American League and National League. Who will win the titles?
Aaron Boone deserves the AL honors
As things stand, there’s simply no arguing that Aaron Boone deserves the AL honors for Manager of the Year. Last offseason, it looked like New York was going to part ways with Boone, as the Yankees didn’t come close to reaching expectations in 2021. Matter of fact, this team hasn’t lived up to the hype under Boone at all. That’s not the case thus far this spring and summer.
The Yankees are looking like the best team in baseball, as their MLB odds are through the roof to win the AL East. Not only that, but their World Series odds are also No. 1 in the bigs. This tells you just how brilliant they’ve been. Boone has played a major role in making that happen. Now, only time will tell if the Yankees get back to the World Series, but things are looking good.
The Bronx Bombers have the best record in baseball and their star players are really stepping up for them. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson, Gleyber Torres, Gerrit Cole and more have looked sharp and that’s not going to stop in the near future. With Judge, the fact that the Yankees weren’t able to finalize an extension with him hasn’t slowed him down.
If anything, it has motivated Judge to have a big year, as he’s also the favorite to win AL MVP. Boone has kept things tight in the clubhouse as well, which has been great to see. This really could be the year where the Yankees end their World Series drought. If this is the case, then Boone will of course walk away with Manager of the Year. He’s our pick in this case as well.
Buck Showalter is in the NL Manager of the Year hunt
It goes without saying, but Buck Showalter is in the NL Manager of the Year hunt this season, as he’s got the New York Mets looking fantastic in 2022. Showalter joined the Mets and fans were excited about the move. He’s got loads of experience and people think he has what it takes to help turn things around for the team over in Flushing this year.
So far, so good, as Showalter has the Mets looking like one of the best teams in the NL. The Mets are in first place in the NL East, with a strong lead over the Braves and Phillies. Atlanta figured to cruise to a division title this season after they won the World Series in 2021. However, the Mets have really looked sharp, with their star players making a huge splash.
Guys like Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Starling Marte, Jeff McNeil and others have been playing sharp. The addition of Max Scherzer, one of the best starting pitchers in the bigs, has also been monumental for the Mets. It has people dreaming of this team reaching the Fall Classic. There’s still a long road ahead, but the Mets are looking like serious contenders.
Similar to Boone, Showalter will of course be able to bring home the Manager of the Year honors if he helps the Mets get to the World Series. With that said, a division title and strong postseason run could be more than enough for Showalter to win. He has transformed this Mets team and fans are loving what they’re seeing. Showalter is our pick to win it.
Both the Yankees and Mets have big World Series odds
One thing to really remember here is that both the Yankees and Mets have big World Series odds. The Yankees have the No. 2 odds out there, as they’re barely behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. LA has been set at +440, while the Yankees themselves are at +450. That tells you that the best-rated sportsbooks really think that things will be quite close down the road.
As for the Mets, they’ve been set at +700, which are the best odds for any team in the NL other than the Dodgers. If they were to meet in the NL Championship Series, that’d really be something to see. Imagine if the Yankees and Astros were to meet in the AL Championship Series too, that’d really be an intriguing matchup on both sides and fans would love it.
Again, there’s still a long way to go for the Yankees and Mets, but both of these teams have what it takes to record a memorable season. Both Boone and Showalter will do everything possible to make sure things end with a total bang and it could lead to them getting individual awards.
