With the start of the 2022 MLB season happening about two weeks ago, it’s a great time to start thinking about which teams you should bet on for total wins. With the season starting, we have a better idea of who should be finishing with what type of record at the end of the year. Below, we will take a look at the Boston Red Sox and see if they should have money put on them.
Boston Red Sox | Total Wins – 82.5
The Boston Red Sox will need to win 83 games for bettors to profit on the over and win less than 83 for bettors to profit on the under.
They start the season at 7-6 and unless they can find a way to turn things around sometime soon, it would be unlikely that they were going to hit that 93-plus win mark.
Surprisingly, the Boston Red Sox is currently the American League East’s fourth-lowest win total. The Red Sox must win 83 games to earn money on their victory total.
This is an absurdly low sum for a team with their caliber of talent. With Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, Chris Sale, J.D. Martinez, and newly acquired Trevor Story, the Red Sox could easily exceed that number.
When you consider that Sale should be able to play the entire season, Boston appears to have a chance to win 90 games.
The fact that the Boston Red Sox play in baseball’s best division is the only aspect of their 83-game wins needed that disturbs me. The New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Tampa Bay Rays are all contenders for not just this division, but also the World Series.
Despite playing in baseball’s most competitive division, the Red Sox could still easily surpass 82.5 wins this season, despite the slow start.
How Did The Red Sox Start The Year?
The Boston Red Sox have certainly not looked like the team that people were expecting to see this season. They’re going to be coming in only winning at 6 of their first 13 games as they sit as 6-7, and the reason for them struggling is for the complete opposite reason that many were expecting.
When thinking about the Boston Red Sox, the first thing that comes to mind is their elite hitting. Trevor Story, Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, and J.D. Martinez or some of the best hitters in all of baseball. However, what they’ve been able to produce out on the field is unacceptable so far this season.
In their first 13 games of the season, the Red Sox lineup has only managed to score more than five runs in only four of those games.
Obviously, with the type of lineup that they do have, it should be expected that they’re going to turn it around eventually. The one thing that does have to be considered here is that the Red Sox have a tendency of blowing games in later innings, so can their lineup do enough for them eventually to hit the win total?
If we are going to just go off the past few seasons of this Boston Red Sox team, there should be no reason why this offense doesn’t pick up eventually.
Their pitching hasn’t been great to start the year, but they’re certainly not the reason why they were losing games. Although the Red Sox haven’t gotten major contributions out of many of the starting guys in the rotation, that’s another thing that should figure itself out as the season progresses.
Boston has some disappointing losses to start the year including losing two of three to the Toronto Blue Jays and also losing two of three against the New York Yankees. Both of those teams are going to be at the top of the American League East at the end of the season, meaning that Boston really needed those games to try to win the division.
It’s tough to predict at the moment if the Red Sox are going to be able to win as many games as they’re going to need to just because the season has just gotten underway, but with the type of lineup that Boston has, they should be able to turn this thing around and get back on track.
