Tank Davis has teased a retirement sooner than most think — despite being only 30 years old. But first, he puts his undefeated streak on the line against Lamont Roach this weekend. Stick with us to get three betting locks to hit come Roach-Davis fight night.
Who’s the favorite to win on Saturday night? That seems the most logical way to start our preview of Davis vs. Roach. Per the top betting sites, Tank is a big, big favorite to win. Here’s how the odds shake out:
All eyes are on Davis. He is one of the last remaining stars in the sport — and if he’s telling the truth, his star is close to burning one last time in the ring. Davis has said retirement is a serious thought on his mind, whether he’s using that to juice the event’s sales or not, we’ll have to see. But let’s take his words at face value. If this is the end, it’ll be a brilliant career.
He is a perfect 30-0. More impressively, he’s won 28 of those fights via knockdown, including the last four against the likes of Ryan Garcia and Frank Martin. Tank is an absolute bully in the ring, never afraid to walk down his opponent. He’ll carry and defend the WBA lightweight world title on Saturday.
On the opposite side of the ring will be Roach. Fighting Tank is tough as is, but Roach has to jump weight to make this fight happen. He was the 130-pound WBA title holder, last beating Feargal McCrory in June. We’ll get into the stylistic matchup in the next section where we offer our free betting picks on the bout.
As you saw above, the moneyline odds on this fight aren’t really dripping in betting value. But hey, that doesn’t mean there’s no money to be made off this bout. There is — you just have to get creative. Keep reading and we’ll give you valuable Davis-Roach betting advice:
Yes, we’re going to bet on the moneyline despite Tank being -1500 to win. But… we’ll be betting this as a parlay. All three bets were about to offer, we recommend throwing them into a multi-leg parlay. That’s the best way to profit off this lopsided matchup — not straight bets.
Roach is 25-1-1, with 10 KOs over his career. That should tell you exactly how he fights — a lot of jabs and very little pizazz. His best route to victory will be to use the jab to keep Tank at bay and make him work for every landed blow.
But will it work? Honestly, probably not a chance in hell. Davis’ power and pressure is too much. Maybe it won’t happen right away, but eventually, Tank’s prowess will overwhelm his smaller-sized opponent. Roach is going to have to muster the fight of his life to win, and we just don’t see that happening.
Alright, of all the bets in this parlay, this is the most tricky. Tricky because the best boxing betting sites have pegged it at 8.5 rounds with even odds each way. Here’s the lines:
Again, the parlay will be made or broken in this pick cause we’re near certain about the other two outcomes. Question is, how quickly can Tank get Roach out? As mentioned, he’s KO’d four straight opponents. Those fellas fella down in rounds 8, 7, 9, and 6 — an average of 7.5 rounds, just under the 8.5 that’s pegged.
Can Roach fare better than the norm? We honestly don’t think so — not when he’s making his debut at lightweight. If anything, we think Tank will bait him like he’s done so many other recent opponents. By bait, we mean leave himself vulnerable to punches and then make the opponent get overconfident.
This was the playbook Davis used against Garcia, who chased a knockdown after some early success. What ended up happening? Tank baited him to land a crushing blow that knocked out Garcia — it’s an easily repeatable mistake that Roach could fall victim to.
Our money is on an early finish. The mismatch is too much for us here. Expect Davis to finish him in rounds 6 or 7 — which might make bettors sweat a little, but that’s all a part of gambling anyway.
Let’s add a prop into this parlay — how exactly does Davis win (or Roach if you think an upset is possible)? The options are as follows:
Outcome | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
---|---|---|---|
Davis by Decision | +350 | +350 | +350 |
Davis by KO | -425 | -425 | -425 |
Draw | +2500 | +2500 | +2500 |
Roach by Decision | +2800 | +2800 | +2800 |
Roach by KO | +1600 | +1600 | +1600 |
We’re extremely confident in the knockdown, as mentioned before. While we’re not in love with -425 odds, we just can’t imagine Roach pushing Davis to the limits — not in his first fight at this weight class against the best opponent he’s ever faced. This isn’t a Rocky movie and Roach will get finished early to cash this bet.
