We’re nearly midway through the South American World Cup qualifiers, as match day No. 8 is set to arrive on Tuesday, June 8. As you might have been able to guess, Brazil is at the top of the table, while Argentina is second. There have been some surprises, though. In a great matchup, Colombia and Argentina are ready to meet. This showdown will provide us with plenty of intrigue, as James Rodriguez, Juan Cuadrado and others will be ready to try and power the home side to a win. Indeed, Colombia will look to take down Argentina on Tuesday, but Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and the rest of the Argentines will surely have something to say about that.
On match day No. 7, Argentina drew 1-1 with Chile. In that game, Messi scored the opening goal on a penalty kick. Unfortunately for Argentina, they missed out on all three points thanks to a Chile goal from Alexis Sanchez. Argentina had chances to win things in the second half, but the ball just couldn’t find the back of the net, resulting with things finishing at 1-1.

Colombia on the other hand had an amazing match day No. 7, as they traveled to Lima and took down Peru 3-0. Winning on the road is never easy in World Cup qualifying, but Colombia was nothing short of outstanding in this game. It was a great bounce-back for them, especially after losing 6-1 to Ecuador in Quito earlier in qualification, which was a stunner.
Heading into this one, Colombia holds +180 odds, while Argentina has been set at +145 soccer odds. This should be a back-and-forth affair. However, with Colombia being the home team here, we think they’ll take full advantage of that and come away with a win. In another great rivalry game, Ecuador is a heavy favorite to beat Peru in Quito. With the game to be played in the high altitude of Quito, this will of course be an advantage for the Ecuadorians, who will be looking to jump into second place of the standings if they win and Colombia beats Argentina. There’s no denying Ecuador has been a huge surprise team in qualifying.
After losing 1-0 to Argentina in the first game, Ecuador has been on a tear, winning three of their last four games. Ecuador beat Uruguay 4-1, Bolivia 3-2 and Colombia 6-1. The play of Moises Caicedo, Gonzalo Plata, Enner Valencia and Pervis Estupinan has been nothing short of incredible to see. Unfortunately for Ecuador, they were without Caicedo and Plata to face Brazil, losing 2-0.
With that said, Ecuador should take down Peru with ease. Peru is in last place with only one point through five matches. This has been a big disappointment, as the Peruvians qualified for the World Cup in 2018. That most certainly won’t be happening in 2022 unless they have some sort of a miraculous turnaround. For Ecuador, they’re in a good position right now.
Ecuador holds -260 odds to beat Peru, with the Peruvians at +700. That number tells you just how much of underdogs the visitors are for this one, with the Las Vegas sportsbooks loving Ecuador here. There’s no way they beat Ecuador. With Plata and Caicedo set to return to action on Tuesday too, that will really help out the home side. Yes indeed, Ecuador is our pick here folks. Last but not least, Brazil should cruise to a strong win over Paraguay on Tuesday. Despite Paraguay being the home team, that doesn’t matter, as the Brazilians are playing like one of the best teams in the world right now. That was showcased in the 2-0 win over Ecuador last week, with Neymar Jr. and Richarlison scoring to give their country the victory.
Brazil is a perfect 5-for-5 to begin World Cup qualifying. They indeed sit at the top of the standings with their 15 points. Even more impressive, they have a goal difference of +12, scoring 14 goals and only allowing two. You mean Brazil has only allowed two goals in five games? That statistic right there is nothing short of incredible and shows you just how strong they are both on offense and defense.
This is bad news for Paraguay, who will have their hands more than full trying to record some kind of a positive result against the South American giants. Brazil is the mighty favorite at -185, and Paraguay has been given +490 odds. You already know Brazil is our pick here folks.
