Tilman Fertitta, the affluent businessman who heads a vast hospitality and entertainment empire featuring several casino hotels in Nevada, is set to step away from his company to assume a position in the Trump administration.
Fertitta intends to resign as the chief executive officer of Fertitta Entertainment LLC if his appointment as U.S. ambassador to Italy and San Marino receives confirmation.
In a letter dated March 16 to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, which the Houston Chronicle shared, he stated that he would be stepping down to “avoid any actual or apparent conflict of interest.”

Fertitta Entertainment acts as a holding company for Landry’s Inc.. This Houston-based conglomerate operates various businesses, including the NBA’s Houston Rockets and three Golden Nugget casino hotels in downtown Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and Laughlin.
Furthermore, according to financial documents, Fertitta is the largest shareholder of Wynn Resorts Ltd., based in Las Vegas, having increased his stake to 10.9 percent in February.
He is also related to Lorenzo Fertitta and Frank Fertitta III, who serve as chairman of Las Vegas-based Red Rock Resorts Inc. and CEO of Station Casinos, respectively.
President Donald Trump nominated Fertitta for the ambassadorial position in December.
Fertitta, who gained fame as a reality television star on “Billion Dollar Buyer,” does not have a background in politics or diplomacy; however, he has been a prominent campaign contributor to both major political parties.
In 2020, he donated $140,000 to Trump’s unsuccessful re-election bid and gave $5,600 to former President Joe Biden. Additionally, in 2024, Fertitta organized a fundraising event for Trump at his Post Oak Hotel in Houston.

The Plaza announces Weekly Fireworks Shows
The downtown Las Vegas resort is set to once again light up the night sky with a weekly fireworks display to kick off the weekend.
Starting May 2, the Plaza will host its “Welcome to the Weekend” fireworks show every Friday night at 9:15 p.m., according to a recent news release.
These spectacular displays, inspired by the iconic fireworks at Disneyland, will continue through September 26.
“We received fantastic feedback from guests about our Friday fireworks shows last summer, so we’ve decided to extend them for a total of 22 weeks this year,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino. “With the summer weather in Las Vegas arriving earlier and lasting longer, it only makes sense to extend our fireworks celebration!”
The Plaza has also noted that the fireworks will depend on weather conditions and may be subject to change or cancellation.
