Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson isn’t the only major boxing fight happening this time of the year — there’s actually three big-name bouts happening in December and January. We have early betting picks for three of those fights in this article. Keep reading to get ahead of other bettors on em!
Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury Betting Pick
This is going to be huge — figuratively and literally. Of course, it’s going to pit the two best heavyweights of their generation one more time. The rematch takes place on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — only six months after the first bout. Here’s how the best boxing betting sites have the Fury-Usyk odds pegged:
No surprise, Usyk is the betting favorite and a comfortable one at that. Usyk won the first bout via split decision, but most don’t think it was that close — unless your Fury, of course. The Gypsy King wasn’t happy with the result and argued he had done enough to win.
Fury was ahead on all three scorecards after eight rounds then the bout changed on a dime in Round 9. He knocked down Fury mid-round and almost finished him afterward as he unloaded 14 unanswered punches. Fury survived until the bell, and surprisingly kept the fight close — even winning some late rounds. Still, Usyk was crowned undisputed champion and Fury earned his first-ever defeat.
What changes in a rematch? Well, Fury has to find a way to stay on his feet — but that’s a big if. Yes, he’s actually younger than Usyk (36 years old to 37), but he hasn’t taken care of his body nearly as well as Usyk. That, plus Fury has been knocked over and over again in his career. You don’t fix that at this stage of your career, if anything, the trend only accelerates.
We honestly think Usyk is the better fighter. He has the advantage in every area besides physics size (but this is the case with every heavyweight he’s fought). Speed, IQ, and yes, power, we’d all give the advantage to Usyk.
We’re going to go out on a limb and predict Usyk wins by KO. We think the moneyline is a no-brainer bet to make, but for those looking to up the risk, the KO prop might be worth it. Usyk’s IQ will be enough to “figure out” Fury in the rematch and pick him apart for knockdowns. Bank on it!
There’s zero point in betting the Inoue-Goodman moneyline. It’s too lopsided — Inoue is a -2000 favorite. So when it comes to betting Inoue vs. Goodman, just stuck to the over/under. Here’s the line:
This will take place on December 24 in Tokyo — the homeland of Inoue. He’ll be putting up his undisputed junior featherweight championship on the line against Goodman, who’s 19-0 with 8 KO’s. This will be Inoue’s third title defense this year and odds are he’s getting another knockdown win like the first two.
We’d certainly bet on that outcome. Nothing against Goodman, but Inoue is in a class of his own. The 28-0 fighter is up to No. 2 or No. 3 pound-for-pound rankings, depending on the source. More than that, he’s an absolute knockout artist with 25 wins coming by that.
Question is, when does that finish happen? We’re guessing it’s an early one for Inoue. He’s won his last two fights in the seventh and sixth rounds, respectively. Goodman is getting out early and in time to celebrate Christmas. Take the under here!
Under 7.5 Roundsin Naoya Inoue vs. Sam Goodman fight
All right, this Benavidez vs. Morrell fight isn’t official quite yet. However, it’s heavily rumored with a tentative fight date being January 1. If it happens, the bout is expected to be razor close. Here’s the current moneyline odds:
Neither man has ever lost before. Benavidez is 29-0, 24 KOs and Morrell is 11-0, 9 KOs. Both fighters are known for their power. Benavidez, of course, is called the “Mexican Monster” for a reason. He has all the hype, so much so that many fans think Canelo Alvarez is dodging him. But as impressive as Benavidez is, Morrell might pack more punch — he’s just not as known.
However, Morrell’s stock is down after an unimpressive win against Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic last time out. That may just be the reason Benavidez finally took this fight (Morrell has called him out for years now). It’ll be a fun one, but Benavidez should secure this win. Jump on Benavidez’s moneyline, which pays out pretty decently.
