The 2024 Qatar Grand Prix will take place this weekend. Lando Norris (+200) is the betting favorite to win the penultimate race of the season. But Norris will have competition from Max Verstappen (+400) and Oscar Piastri (+500). We say who will win in our Qatar Grand Prix Formula 1 betting picks.
What: 2024 Qatar Grand Prix – Round 23
Where: Lusail International Circuit, Doha, Qatar
When: Sunday, December 1st, 2024
Time: 11 a.m ET
Laps: 57
Track Length: 5.419 km

First held in 2021, the Qatar Grand Prix is one of the newest races on the Formula 1 roster. The Lusail International Circuit was originally built for MotoGP racing but has quickly become a staple of the F1 race calendar with a 10-year deal to host the race signed in 2023.
The circuit has 16 corners, with many medium-to-high-speed turns. There is also a 1 km-long straight, providing plenty of overtaking opportunities.
Former race winners are Lewis Hamilton in 2021 and Max Verstappen in 2023. There was no race held in 2022.
Verstappen clinches fourth Drivers’ Championship title
Last weekend, Max Verstappen and Red Bull had a party in Las Vegas.
Verstappen only managed a P5-finish, but with his only title rival Lando Norris trailing him in P6, it was enough to guarantee the Dutchman his fourth Drivers’ Championship title.
The race itself was won by George Russell. The 26-year-old Brit led his teammate Lewis Hamilton home in a 1-2 for the Silver Arrows. Russell’s second win of the season saw him open up a 9-point lead over his illustrious Mercedes teammate in the Drivers’ Championship.
The Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finished P3 and P4. They gained 12 points on McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship, with Norris and Piastri only managing to finish P6 and P7.
As a result, Ferrari has closed the gap on McLaren at the top of the Constructors’ Championship to just 24 points. McLaren leads with 608 points, with Ferrari on 584. In the latest Las Vegas odds, McLaren is -450 to win the title, with Ferrari at +333.
McLaren would appear to be the team best suited to the Lusail International Circuit. As a result, Lando Norris is the +200 favorite to win the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix.
Newly crowned world champion Max Verstappen is the second-favorite at +400, with Oscar Piastri next at +500.
After their significantly improved performances last weekend in Vegas, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton are both +600.
Ferrari isn’t expected to be as competitive in Qatar as in recent weeks. As a result, Charles Leclerc is +900 and Carlos Sainz is +1000.
Finally, in the car to win betting, McLaren is the favorite at +100. Mercedes are next at +225, Red Bull is at +375 and Ferrari is at +475.
To put those odds into perspective and highlight the changes in circuit and form, Mercedes was +1400 to win in Vegas. Ferrari was the favorite at +150, just ahead of McLaren at +160, and Red Bull at +210.

Our 2024 Qatar Grand Prix betting picks and predictions
No one predicted the improved performance of the two Mercedes cars last weekend in Vegas. Ferrari was the team expected to dominate, and in fairness to the Scuderia, they did take the two places directly behind the two Silver Arrows.
This weekend it’s McLaren who is expected to dominate. But can we simply dismiss Mercedes after last weekend?
The chances are we can. The Doha circuit is completely different from the Vegas street circuit used last weekend. Furthermore, we’ve seen these false dawns from Mercedes before this season.
The Silver Arrows have won back-to-back races in 2024. George Russell’s win at the Austrian Grand Prix was backed up by Lewis Hamilton when he won his native British Grand Prix seven days later.
But Russell’s victory in Austria has to be put into some perspective. That was the race that saw Verstappen and Norris fighting for the lead and eventually taking each other out, allowing the Mercedes of Russell to cash in on the incident.
There is a chance that Mercedes could gatecrash the party again this weekend, but if we follow the season’s form, the Silver Arrows haven’t generally been consistent on a race-by-race basis. Whereas McLaren has.
Any McLaren or Lando Norris?
So we now come to the next question. Do we back any McLaren at +100, or Lando Norris at +200?
The problem with backing any McLaren is the form of Oscar Piastri. In his last three races, the Aussie has finished P7 (Vegas), P8 (Brazil), and P8 (Mexico). We have to go back to Round 17 in Azerbaijan for Piastri’s last win, and Round 18 in Singapore for his most recent podium finish.
Piastri might pull a performance out of the bag this weekend. It is also possible Mercedes might win again.
But the most consistent performer of all of the options we have from across the season is Lando Norris. And he is our pick to win the Qatar Grand Prix.
