The 2024 DP World Tour draws to a close with the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Rory McIlroy +400 is the betting favorite to win the event. The Northern Irishman is looking to finish the season on a high and we tell you if he will win when we name our golf betting picks.
This week the attention of the golfing world switches away from America as the European Tour has its rare moment in the sun.
Not to be confused with the DP World Tour (formally known as the European Tour), the DP World Tour Championship is the season-ending tournament of the aforementioned tour.
The 2024 edition will be only the 16th time the competition has been played. The course used is the Greg Norman-designed earth course, and it’s well-suited to the long hitters.
Last year’s winner was Nicolai Hojgaard, but the Dane is absent this week. Previous winners include Jon Rahm (x3), Rory McIlroy (x2), Matt Fitzpatrick (x2), and Henrik Stenson (x2).
Rory McIlroy is the betting favorite to win the DP World Tour Championship. The best online golf betting sites have McIlroy priced at +400 to win the event for the third time in his career.
McIlroy’s closest betting rivals are Tyrrell Hatton at +550 and Tommy Fleetwood at +750. They are the only three players with golf odds under +1000.

Only the top 50 players on the DP World Tour standings are eligible, and with plenty of points on offer for the winner, whoever gets his hands on the trophy usually wins the Race to Dubai (the European Tour’s No.1 golfer of the year).
Rory McIlroy has won the Race to Dubai for the past two seasons. And given his lead in this season’s standings, it would take something astronomical to prevent him from winning again.
South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence is the only player in the 50-strong field who is able to catch McIlroy. But Lawrence has his work cut out as the only outcome that can prevent McIlroy from making it three wins in a row is if the Northern Irishman finishes 12th or lower and Lawrence picks up the winner’s check.
McIlroy won’t just want to win the Race to Dubai this weekend. He will want to do it in style by also winning the World Tour Championship event.
Rory hasn’t won this competition since 2015. And a bit like his long wait for another golfing major, he will feel he is due to get his name engraved on this trophy again on Sunday.
Not present at this week’s season-ending showpiece are Nicolai Hojgaard, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Jon Rahm.
Defending champion Nicolai Hojgaard failed to make the top 50 this season. The same fate also befell Matt Fitzpatrick who is a lowly 130th on the Race to Dubai list.
Ludvig Auberg and Viktor Hovland are resting injuries.
Despite his legal dispute with the DP World Tour, Jon Rahm is available to play and did qualify. But the three-time winner opted to give it a miss to prioritize family time after his wife recently gave birth to their third child.
With the Race to Dubai all but in the bag for Rory, could the lack of pressure release the shackles from the shoulders of the two-time winner? If it does, he could land the big prize for a third time.
But we believe that odds of +400 are too short on a player who has fluffed his lines more than once this season.
Instead, we are looking at Tyrrell Hatton for our main bet.
Hatton finished second at the Yas Links course in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship last week. He also won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at the start of October in his previous event before last week. Albeit, in far colder conditions.
Hatton is in good form on links courses in general. He is our pick to win the DP World Tour Championship at +550.
For our outside bets, we are going for top-five finishes for Thriston Lawrence and last week’s winner in Abu Dhabi, Paul Waring.
Thirston Lawrence finished fifth here last year on only his second visit. He was also T6 in the HSBC in Abu Dhabi last week.
If Rory blows the top 11, there could be additional pressure on Lawrence. But we don’t see Rory blowing his lead in the Race to Dubai, so we think Lawrence can play without the additional pressure.
Paul Waring started last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship as a journeyman golfer. He was 48th in the Race to Dubai standings and hoped to do enough to finish inside the top 50 and qualify for this event.
In a life-changing moment, Waring won the HSBC. He is now fifth in the Race to Dubai and with the top 10 qualifying for a PGA Tour Card, Waring is on the verge of clinching dual membership for next year.
Confidence will be high, making Paul Waring a good bet to finish in the top five.
