Round 20 of the 2024 F1 season comes from Mexico City. There is a three-way tie in the betting to win the race. A resurgent Charles Leclerc is at the same odds as championship rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. In our latest F1 betting picks, we tell you who will come out on top.
Charles Leclerc won his third race this season in Round 19 in Austin.
Leclerc led a Ferrari one-two, with Carlos Sainz finishing second behind his teammate in a dominant performance by the Italian team.
Despite dominating the race, the performances of the two Ferraris largely went unnoticed thanks to the fierce battle behind them between championship leader Max Verstappen and his chief rival Lando Norris.
The two fought hard for third place. Ultimately, Max Verstappen won the day. But it wasn’t without incident.
Sunday’s improved performance by Ferrari has really impacted the betting to win the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix.
Furthermore, Red Bull’s upgrades look to have improved the car. As a result, Verstappen is back among the favorites to win in Mexico.
Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen are all +260 to win the 2024 Mexico Grand Prix.
On the Monday before the recent US Grand Prix, Norris was the +100 betting favorite, with Max Verstappen second at +450, and Charles Leclerc at +600.
Sunday’s race from Austin has resulted in a drift in the odds for a Norris win, and both Verstappen and Leclerc’s odds significantly shortening.
Behind the leading three drivers are Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri at +800. George Russell is +1800. His Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton is +2000.
Hamilton endured a torrid time in the US. The Brit started from 17th on the grid (Hamilton qualified in 19th, but moved up a couple of places), and then crashed out after only one completed lap. The seven-time world champion’s car clearly wasn’t right.

After surrendering the lead at the first corner, Lando Norris was forced to play catch-up behind Max Verstappen. Norris again started the race from the pole position, and again failed to cash in on his advantage.
As a result, Verstappen gained a lead over Norris in the early stages. The offset strategy employed by McLaren gave Norris a tire advantage in the second half of the race, and the Brit used it effectively to catch Verstappen up with 12 laps remaining.
Try as he did for eight laps, Norris couldn’t get past the triple-world champion. Verstappen used all his experience to hold his championship rival at bay.
Eventually, something gave, and with four laps remaining, Verstappen went so wide in defense of his position that both drivers ended up off the track, where Norris overtook the Dutchman.
The upshot of all this is that Norris received a five-second penalty. He only managed to finish 4.1 seconds ahead of Verstappen, meaning the championship leader was promoted to third place ahead of Norris.
Verstappen not only gained three points on Norris in Sunday’s race but also a further two by winning Saturday’s Sprint race (Norris was third). As a result, Verstappen (354) now leads the Drivers’ Championship by 57 points from Norris (297).
There is hope for Norris as there are still 146 points left to compete for. But having started the race in pole position, it’s another case of what might have been for the 24-year-old Brit.
In the betting to win the Drivers’ Championship, Verstappen is now -450, with Norris +300.
While in the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren is -800 (they were -1400 before Austin). Their closest rivals are now Ferrari at +550, with Red Bull drifting out to +1600.
There were plenty of takeaways from the 2024 US Grand Prix. Ferrari is finishing the season strongly, Mercedes is in a mess, and one other significant takeaway is that Norris and Verstappen only looked to be focusing on each other – especially at that first corner.
It was like the two championship drivers were having their own race and not bothering where anybody else finished.
Norris now needs to start finishing more than one position higher than Verstappen. He needs significant gains in the remaining races.
Whereas Max Verstappen is happy to finish just one place ahead. It looks like Red Bull is no longer looking to win races this season, instead, they seem to be focusing on keeping Verstappen ahead of Norris in the championship – by any means.
That’s an obvious and understandable game plan. But what that does do is open the door for Ferrari to win races and also finish above Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship.
The Ferrari car looks to be a match for McLaren now. But with Norris struggling to hold leads past the first corner and also focussing strongly on just beating Verstappen, a bet on any Ferrari to win the Mexican Grand Prix looks the best value betting pick.
