The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs marches on this weekend with the South Point 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Following last weekend’s Bank of America ROVAL 400, which Kyle Larson won, Alex Bowman, Austin Cindric, Daniel Suarez, and Chase Briscoe were eliminated from the playoffs. Bowman, the driver of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, originally made the cut for the final eight, but he was eliminated after the race when his car failed a post-race weight inspection.

This Sunday’s South Point 400 marks the first race for the Round of 8 in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. Denny Hamlin has three wins this year and is also high on the list of betting favorites. Hamlin is in the playoffs but outside the top four at -8. He finished in eighth place in Vegas in the spring. Hamlin has finished 10th and 14th in his past two races.
Tyler Reddick is also among the betting favorites in Las Vegas. Reddick is third in playoff points heading into Las Vegas. He has placed 20th and 11th in his past two outings. Reddick has two wins in 2024. He placed second in Las Vegas in the spring race.
Along with the drivers mentioned above, the following drivers are still in the mix to win the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship:
Christopher Bell: Bell has three victories in 2024, with his most recent win coming in June at the USA Today 301. Bell might not be winning races as of late, but he has had some excellent finishes, placing inside the top seven in seven of his last eight starts. His worst finish during that stretch was 14th on the Watkins Glen road course.
William Byron: Byron has three wins in 2024, but his last victory came all the way back in April at the Cook Out 400 in Martinsville. Byron has performed very well in the past three NASCAR races, finishing in second, third, and third.
Ryan Blaney: Blaney is in the mix to make the Round of 4, but he will need some strong finishes in the next few weeks. Blaney has placed 39th and 10th in the past two weeks. He has one victory in 2024 at the Iowa Corn 350.
Chase Elliott: Elliott had an off-week in Talladega, where he placed 29th. Outside of that finish, he has a second, ninth, and fifth in his past four starts. Elliott’s most recent win was in April at the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 in Fort Worth.
Joey Logano: As mentioned above, Logano made the Round of 8 when Alex Bowman was disqualified after the race in Charlotte. Logano needs a lot of help if he hopes to make the Round of 4. He has two wins in 2024, with his most recent checkered flag coming at Atlanta in early September.
No current NASCAR driver has performed as well at the Las Vegas Speedway as Kyle Larson. When you couple that with all the success the runner-up for the 2023 NASCAR Championship has had this year, it’s not hard to see him winning the South Point 400 on Sunday in Vegas.
