Formula 1 is officially back. We’ve known for a few weeks now that the McLaren car can all but match the Red Bull. But even Mercedes is getting in on the act after wins for George Russell in Austria and Lewis Hamilton in the British Grand Prix.
Okay, George Russell’s win in Austria was down to a collision between Verstappen and Norris. And it’s also true that the weather, strategy, and good fortune played a part in Hamilton’s win at Silverstone.
But the point is, we now see good competitive races every week. The only thing missing is a Ferrari. Their form seems to have fallen off a cliff edge since Charles Leclerc won the Monaco Grand Prix in Round 8.
After a two-week hiatus, hopefully, the legendary Prancing Horse team will have regrouped, as it would be great to see four teams competing for the win at the Hungaroring this weekend.
Betting to win the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix
The odds of a win for Max Verstappen are shortening every week. Earlier in the season we were seeing ridiculous prices of -700 for the Dutchman to win a race, but thankfully that is no more.
In the British Grand Prix, the best Formula 1 Las Vegas betting sites had the championship leader at -170. To win the Hungarian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is -140. Will we soon see the triple-world champion start a Formula 1 week at odds against?
Second in the betting is Lando Norris. The McLaren No.1 driver was +250 to win at Silverstone. After another disappointing end to a race he believes he should have won, Lando Norris is +450 to win the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Behind Norris are the winners of the two most recent races, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. The British pair are both +800. They were +1600 and +1800 to win the British Grand Prix.
Elsewhere, Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc are +1600, Carlos Sainz is +1800, and Sergio Perez is a whopping +6600. What has happened to him since he got his new contract at Red Bull?
More 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix betting is on our Las Vegas odds table. We have taken the odds from the best betting sites for F1.
The Hungaroring offers drivers a different challenge from most other F1 circuits in Europe. Often compared to a karting circuit, the Hungaroring has plenty of corners grouped, with only one real straight, found on the start/finish line.
The setup of the cars here is more akin to Monaco. The Hungaroring couldn’t be much more different from what the drivers have just experienced at Silverstone. In Hungary, they will need to rely more on accuracy and speed out of corners than raw horsepower given the lack of high-speed straights.
Choosing which cars will suit this circuit is the key to profiting from the race.
Betting to win the 2024 Drivers’ Championship
Despite not having won since Round 10 at the Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is still the -1400 favorite to win the 2024 Drivers’ Championship.
Second in the betting is Lando Norris at +800. Neither driver’s odds have changed since before the British Grand Prix.
The big surprise here is that despite not having won in the past two races, Verstappen has increased his lead over Norris in the points table. Usually, this would result in a shift in the betting. So the fact it hasn’t moved the odds only further confirms the belief that Norris is regarded as a real threat.
The British driver cut a hugely frustrated figure after the Silverstone race. He was bemoaning the fact that finishing third wasn’t good enough. Norris knows he has the beating of Verstappen. But he’s finding out that learning how to do it is a totally different concept.
Our Pick to win the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix
The basic fact we are making our Hungarian picks on is that it now looks like a 50/50 call on whether or not Max Verstappen wins any Grand Prix. The Dutchman is always odds against, and that means backing against him is the way to go.
We feel that a track with plenty of tight corners will suit McLaren. Lando Norris knows he can’t keep on being unlucky forever. There comes a time when the driver and the team have to take responsibility for not winning races. That point looked to have been reached at Silverstone.
There are two betting pick options here, and we approve of both. Either back Lando Norris to win at +450, or back the field against Verstappen at +100 with BetOnline.
