This week, the PGA Tour enters the Arizonian desert for the 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open. The betting favorite is Scottie Scheffler (+500), with the World No.1 looking to pick up his first tournament win of 2024 and his third successive Phoenix Open title. In our latest golf betting picks, we look ahead to the tournament and tell you if he will do it.
What; 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open
Where; TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Arizona.
When; Thursday, February 8th – Sunday, February 11th
Par; 71
Yardage; 7,261
Like at Pebble Beach last week, we’re back to the traditional Thursday starts for golf events. This is after a couple of recent events were held from Wednesday to Saturday to avoid the final day clashing with the NFL.
Also, after a few weeks in the Hawaiian sunshine and along the coasts of California, the tour is now in the desert of Arizona for the next event, the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
The change in conditions will represent differing challenges for the players, led again by Scottie Scheffler, who will be looking to improve his T6 finish at the ProAm last weekend.
Last week’s event – although scheduled to finish on Sunday – also finished on Saturday. But this was because a storm wiped out the final day’s play. Wyndham Clark was declared the winner. The American was the overnight leader on Saturday at 17 under par, after a stunning third round.
But at just four shots back, Scheffler would almost certainly have challenged Clark on the final day had the play gone ahead. And regardless of how the Pebble Beach event ended, Scheffler had a good run out and looked in good shape, which all bodes well for him leading into this week’s competition.
Betting to win the 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open
Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win the 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open. In the latest Vegas golf odds, Scheffler is +500 to win the event for a third successive year.
Second in the betting is Justin Thomas at +1100. Thomas has started 2024 in impressive form, registering a T6 at Pebble Beach last week and a T3 at the American Express in late January. The two-time Major winner also finished fourth here 12 months ago, seven shots behind Scheffler.
The third betting favorite to win is Max Homa at +1800. Homa is followed by Jordan Spieth at +2000 and Sam Burns at +2200. The first non-American in the betting is Byeong Hun An at +3000. The reason I highlighted this, is because American golfers have dominated this event in recent years.
An American has won this event for the past six years and 14 times in the last 16 years. Only Hideki Matsuyama (the Japanese won here in 2016 and 2017) has snapped the streak of American wins.
Making up the front runners in the betting is last week’s winner Wyndham Clark at +3300. Also at +3300 is Sahith Theegala, with Sungjae Im, Min Woo Lee, Matt Fitzpatrick, and J.P Poston all at +3500.

With a short-priced favorite this week, the rest of the field looks very open. Given Scheffler’s form in Arizona, we do have to consider him in our selections. And although he’s not great value, he is a must-bet in some capacity. So it’s no surprise that the defending champ is our first betting pick.
Scottie Scheffler Top 5 Finish +130
This is a course that slightly favors the big hitters off the tee more than the shorter, more accurate players. That said, Scheffler’s short game around the greens was important last year, as was his tee-to-green accuracy. This is also a factor why he is regularly on the leaderboard of every event he enters.
It is, though, a hell of an ask for him to win this event three years in a row. Therefore, we are making a top-five finish for Scheffler at +130, our first betting pick.

Residing in Scottsdale, this is almost a home event for Wyndham Clark. The 30-year-old won last week at Pebble Beach, and also won his maiden Major Championship in 2023 with his victory at the US Open.
Clark is now up to No.6 in the latest World Rankings and is full of self-belief. It’s hard to foresee him ever turning up at his local event in better shape. Odds of +3300 just seem too long on such an in-form player, and although back-to-back wins are rare on the PGA Tour, this looks like one of those obvious bets that just has to be made.
Wyndham Clark is our first pick to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

With two wins back in 2016 and 2017, Hideki Matsuyama is worth an outside bet at +5000. For some reason, this course suits him. And although he has been out of form in recent times, this could be the event to get him back in the groove.
Hideki Matsuyama is also +900 for a top-five finish. Either bet is worth placing.
