The new golf season is well and truly up and running, and the next big event on the PGA Tour is the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open. Max Homa is the defending champion, but Xander Schauffele (+1000) is the betting favorite to win this year. In our latest golf betting picks, we look ahead to the tournament and tell you the best bets to place.

Early start to competition in 2024
The first thing to note about the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open is that it finishes on Saturday. This is the second successive year the event will finish a day earlier than golf events traditionally do. An early finish also means an early start. So don’t get caught out, as the tournament begins on Wednesday.
The reason? It’s the peak time of the season for the NFL on Sunday nights in America. And as good as golf is, it can’t compete with Gridiron at this time of the year, and the sport doesn’t want to have its viewing figures decimated.
Moving on, the Farmers Insurance Open is played across the two courses at Torrey Pines. The entire field will play the North and South Courses over the opening two days. But after the cut, the final two rounds are played on the more difficult South Course.
The defending champion is Max Homa. In 2023, Homa shot a 13 under par 275 to win the competition by two strokes ahead of Keegan Bradley. Similar scores of -15 by Luke List (2022) and -14 by Patrick Reed (2021) have been enough to win the event in recent years.
Betting to win the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open
There may be no Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, or Scottie Scheffler to watch this week. But there’s still a top-quality lineup that will take to the tee on Wednesday.
Unless you’ve been living on another planet, you will have heard by now that Jon Rahm eventually jumped ship to join the riches of the LIV Tour.
The Spaniard will be available to play in some events, including the 2024 Masters, which is already fast approaching on the horizon. In the early US Masters Golf Vegas odds, the favorite is Scottie Scheffler at +850. He has Rory McIlroy for company at +900, with Rahm at +1000.
Onto the Farmers Insurance betting, and the favorite to win the event is Xander Schauffele at +1000. Second in the betting is Collin Morikawa at +1100, with Patrick Cantlay and Max Homa at +1400.
The four Californians dominate the betting, and BetOnline is offering a market on the four against the field. Any of Schauffele/Morikawa/Cantlay/Homa to win is +240, with any player from the rest of the Field at -290.

One of the things we love most about betting on golf is the endless opportunities we have to hedge our bets, and the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open is no different. So, for this event, we’re naming three picks from a couple of different betting markets.
Jason Day +2800
In the Sentry at the start of January, Jason Day finished a credible T10. The Australian finished on the same score as Xander Schauffele and was one shot back on Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa. In The American Express event last week, things didn’t go as well, with Day finishing in a disappointing T34, 11 shots behind the winner.
Jason Day has won the Farmers Insurance twice, in 2015 and 2018. He also finished second here in 2014.
Although the Aussie isn’t the player he was back then, he did show signs of a return to form in 2023, and his T10 at the Sentry shows he has picked up where he left off last year, making him worth a bet.
Will Zalatoris finished runner-up to Luke List on this course two years ago. The American had back surgery last April that ruled him out of the Majors, but before his injury, he looked like a Major winner in waiting.
It’s hard to know how quickly Zalatoris can get back to the sort of form that saw him finish in the top eight in five of the six US-based Major Championships in 2021 and 2022. Included in those top eight finishes were three-second places. Zalatoris was runner-up in the 2021 Masters and runner-up in the 2022 PGA. He also finished T2 in the 2022 US Open.
This guy is a serious talent, and at odds of +5500, he is well worth backing to win.
Luke List was the man who beat Zalatoris into second place in 2022. List is +7500 to win the event, and while we wouldn’t be against backing him for another title, a top-ten finish looks a more realistic bet.
A bet on Luke List to finish in the Top Ten at +650 is our final betting pick on the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open.
