Missouri didn’t have to wait long during the bowl selection show on Sunday. The Cotton Bowl was the first announcement, revealing that the Tigers would face Ohio State on December 29. This marks Missouri’s first New Year’s Six bowl appearance since 2013 when they played Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl. The upcoming game will take place at AT&T Stadium, famously known as Jerry World, the home stadium of the Dallas Cowboys.
The upcoming matchup will be the first meeting between the Tigers and the Buckeyes since Sept. 19, 1998, when Ohio State secured a 35-14 victory over Missouri. Historically, the Buckeyes hold the advantage in the series with a 10-1-1 record.
Missouri
This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Tigers have earned a bowl selection, and it’s the third consecutive year they will participate in one following the cancellation of the Music City Bowl in 2020. Unlike the past three seasons where Missouri achieved a .500 record late in the season to secure bowl eligibility, this time they find themselves in a prime-time bowl.
Missouri began the season with a strong 5-0 start but faced setbacks against LSU and Georgia. However, they climbed in the rankings with notable victories against Kansas State, Kentucky, and Tennessee. As they enter the bowl game, Missouri is on a three-game winning streak.
In the recent matchup against the Razorbacks, Brady Cook delivered an impressive performance for the Tigers, completing 12 of 20 passes for 112 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also contributed on the ground with six rushes for 14 yards and one touchdown. Cody Schrader had a standout game with 27 carries, accumulating 217 yards at an average of 8.0 yards per attempt, and scoring one touchdown. Luther Burden III contributed 55 receiving yards with six catches on eight targets.
