Verstappen wins 18th race of the season
Yes, Max Verstappen is looking for his 19th win of a truly remarkable 2023 season. The triple world champion is now setting records that may never be beaten, and he has one more chance to stamp another W on his race card this season.
Last weekend, Verstappen didn’t have things all his way in Las Vegas. It was a similar story in the previous race in Brazil. But on both occasions, Verstappen found a way to win.
Perez sees off the threat from Hamilton
His much-maligned teammate, Sergio Perez, has also had better results in his last two races. The Mexican driver finished fourth in Brazil and third in Vegas. His two strong finishes have secured him second place in the 2023 Drivers’ Championship and a first-ever 1-2 finish for Red Bull in a dominant season.
Perez had been coming under pressure from Lewis Hamilton for his second place in the championship. But the improvements in form from the Red Bull driver, coupled with the poor performances from Mercedes in the last two races, have secured Perez his highest-ever finish in the Drivers’ Championship.
Betting to win the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Max Verstappen’s odds in some of the recent Grand Prix races have been a bit up and down. For the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Dutchman was -350. But for races before that, he has been as short as -400. To win in Abu Dhabi this Sunday, the best Formula 1 betting sites make Max Verstappen +350.
Second in the betting is McLaren’s Lando Norris at +1200. Norris has seen a significant shift in his odds ahead of this weekend’s race. The British driver was the second favorite at +850 for the Vegas race. So the top betting sites have reacted to his performance last weekend and adjusted their odds.
Making up the leading candidates in the betting are Sergio Perez (+1400) and Charles Leclerc (+1600). Both drivers had improved performances in Vegas, with Perez finishing third and Leclerc second. The Monégasque also started the race in Vegas in the Pole Position.

We have to say Max Verstappen. Even though he’s had the championship wrapped up for weeks, the Dutchman hasn’t lost his focus and will to win. He has had to dig deeper than usual in his last two races but has come through for the win on both occasions.
Verstappen has also won the previous three races on this circuit, so clearly likes it here.
Elsewhere, there have been improvements in the form of Sergio Perez in recent weeks. After securing second place in the Driver’s Championship, the pressure may be off the Mexican. And he might put in another good performance this weekend.
The Aston Martin cars have also done well in the last two races. Lance Stroll finished fifth in both Brazil and Las Vegas. Fernando Alonso secured a brilliant third-place finish at Interlagos but was a disappointing ninth at Vegas.
As for Ferrari, Charles Leclerc didn’t even start the race in Brazil. But he followed that up with a Pole Position and second-place finish in Vegas. Carlos Sainz was sixth in Brazil and sixth in Vegas.
One other driver to mention here is Esteban Ocon, who finished in an impressive fourth place at Vegas in his Alpine.
Our 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Picks
As we’ve been saying for some weeks now, we are relying on mistakes from Verstappen and Red Bull for anybody else to win. The driver and team have remained focused since winning the title, and they will want another win to seal what has been a dominant season. We have to make Max Verstappen our pick to win the race.
Verstappen is short, and we understand that may mean you want a pick at better odds, so we are also going for Sergio Perez to win at +1400. The Mexican driver’s form has picked up over the past two races, and at Abu Dhabi, he may finally be able to drive without the intense pressure of losing second place on his shoulders.
On the flip side, Perez may be worried about his seat at Red Bull, and even though that will bring pressure, it may also lead to a good performance. Either way, we think Sergio Perez is a good alternative pick at +1400.
