Max Verstappen will be attempting to win his 17th race of the season when he lines up in São Paulo this Sunday for the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix. The Dutchman has only won once here before, but this hasn’t stopped the bookmakers from installing him as their -400 betting favorite to win this weekend. There’s a Sprint Race on Saturday to go with Sunday’s Grand Prix, and here we look ahead to both in our latest Formula 1 betting picks.
Last Sunday’s race in Mexico had a bit of everything. First up, Max Verstappen drove away from the field as he normally does, winning the race ahead of Lewis Hamilton in second and Charles Leclerc in third.
The win was Verstappen’s 16th of the season and saw him break his record of 15 wins, set in 2022. But it wasn’t all good news for the Red Bull drivers, as an over-enthusiastic Sergio Perez crashed out of the race on the first bend following a coming together with Charles Leclerc.
That – along with Lewis Hamilton finishing second – has serious implications for Perez, as Hamilton is now only 20 points behind the Mexican in the Drivers Championship.
Sergio Perez has 240 points, with Lewis Hamilton now up 220. In the betting to win the Drivers Championship without Verstappen (betting to come second), Perez is still the favorite, but the best Formula 1 betting sites have reduced his odds to just -175. Lewis Hamilton’s odds have been slashed to just +125, the shortest he has been all season.
With three Grand Prix and one Sprint race remaining this season, it has become touch and go as to who will finish second behind Max Verstappen. And with 18 points on offer for coming second, Hamilton could in theory overtake the Mexican on the penultimate weekend of the season.
After seeing his odds slightly cut to -300 to win in Mexico, Max Verstappen is back to -400 to win in Brazil. The doubts cast after Verstappen’s brake issues in Austin at the US Grand Prix were swept aside as the Dutchman won convincingly in Mexico City on Sunday.
Following another impressive drive, Lewis Hamilton is the second favorite at +800. Hamilton finished second in Mexico, and he also drove impressively in the previous race in the United States, finishing second, before he was disqualified.
Lando Norris is back as the third betting favorite at +1400. The Brit drove an impressive race to finish fifth. This after starting in 19th position on the grid.
Sergio Perez is +1600. He will want to make amends after his first lap crash last weekend in his home race. George Russell is next at +2000, with Charles Leclerc (+2800), Carlos Sainz (+3300), and Oscar Piastri (+3300) making up the rest of the betting favorites with a chance of finishing on the podium.

George Russell’s won here in 2022. On that day, he beat Lewis Hamilton into second, with Carlos Sainz finishing third. Kevin Magnussen was the surprise winner of the Pole Position.
The Dane won a rain and crash-affected qualifying session to start first in his Haas-Ferrari. Max Verstappen started from third on the grid. But his race was disrupted by a coming together with Lewis Hamilton that resulted in the Dutchman needing a new front wing and receiving a five-second time penalty. The World Champion eventually finished in sixth place.
We will never know if the coming together that wrecked Max Verstappen’s race would have happened if he had got a full qualifying session in. If he had, the chances are the Dutchman would have started on the front row of the grid, and probably would have driven away from the field like he usually does.
Therefore, we are not going to take last year’s result as a reason to say the circuit doesn’t suit the Red Bulls, as we simply don’t know.
Instead, we are going to name our picks based on form. And based on form, it has to be another win for Max Verstappen. With his car underperforming in the US, he still won. And even with Lewis Hamilton performing well, he doesn’t look capable of stopping him. We are simply relying on mistakes from the Dutchman.
If a mistake is to come, then why not back Lewis Hamilton to win at +800? The Brit is performing well and is on a charge as he attempts to overhaul Sergio Perez and finish second in the Drivers Championship.
We are also going to back Lando Norris (+1600) and Charles Leclerc (+1600) to win the Sprint. Norris drove an inspired race last Sunday to finish fifth. Leclerc finished third, and this, with damage to his car, suffered at the first turn of the race. We may never know the true extent of how well Leclerc drove in Mexico.
Either way, both men are in good form and look good value bets to win the Sprint on Saturday.
