The 2023 F1 driver’s championship has now officially become boring. Okay, so Max Verstappen did his best almost single-handedly to liven up proceedings in Austria last Sunday.
But even his near miss with teammate Sergio Perez early on, and his insistence on risking an extra pit stop to claim the one point for the fastest lap, cannot distract from the point that the Dutchman is walking his way to a third successive World Championship.
The biggest threat to Verstappen is himself
What Verstappen did last week highlighted that only he can stop himself from winning the world title.
Team Principal, Christian Horner may well gloss over Verstappen’s risk-taking to claim the extra point for the fastest lap. But beneath all the attempted explanations, there must be talk within Red Bull that Verstappen needs to calm down and focus on securing the title with as little incident as possible.
Betting to win the world championship without Verstappen
Despite Max doing his best to cause his backers to have kittens last weekend, you still can’t get a bet on the current championship leader winning the 2023 championship.
So instead, we have to look at the betting to win the world championship without Verstappen.
And guess what! There was a blast from the past on the podium last week. No, it wasn’t Nigel Mansell or Nelson Piquet. It was Sergio Perez, who finished third, having been missing in action for the past few weeks.
The Mexican’s recent poor performances had seen him go from -1000 to -165 in the betting to win without Verstappen.
But his third-place finish in Austria, saw his odds slightly trimmed to -225. Behind Perez, Fernando Alonso is next in the betting at +300, with Lewis Hamilton having drifted from +300 to +500 on the back of last Sunday’s eighth-place finish in Austria.
Runner-up in Austria, Charles Leclerc, is now +5000 to win the championship without Verstappen.
2023 British Grand Prix winner betting odds
There are no shocks in store from the best Formula 1 betting sites ahead of the British Grand Prix. The bookmakers are making Max Verstappen their -300 betting favorite to win the race for the first time.
Given Verstappen has been winning everything recently, the fact he has never won the British Grand Prix before may come as a bit of a shock.
But before you get too surprised at this news, he has won a Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit. In 2020, there was a 70th Anniversary Grand Prix held at the circuit. It was won by Max Verstappen.
Not the British Grand Prix. But still a win at the famous circuit.
After Verstappen in the betting is his teammate Sergio Perez. Last weekend, the Red Bull No.2 driver was +1000 to win in Austria. After his third-place last Sunday, he is now +650 to win at Silverstone.
After the two Red Bulls, it’s the usual suspects. The third favorite seems to change every week, and despite his eighth-place finish in Austria, it’s Lewis Hamilton at +1200 who is the third favorite to win in England.
Behind Hamilton is Charles Leclerc at +1400, and then it’s Fernando Alonso at +1600.

Right, we all know it’s hard to see past another win for Max Verstappen. But the cold hard facts are that he is head and shoulders above everybody else, and he is most likely to win the British Grand Prix on Sunday.
If you feel he’s a good value bet at -300, then that’s fair enough. If you don’t, we can fully understand.
Lando Norris and his McLaren performed well in Spielberg, finishing a credible fourth last Sunday. The first part of some upgrades to the McLaren was in place for last weekend, with the remainder set to be added to the car this week.
Along with this being his home Grand Prix, we feel that makes Lando Norris a good value bet to finish in the top 6 this week.
Another car due to be upgraded this week is the Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton was none too pleased with the car’s performance in Austria last weekend, and he will expect better in front of his home crowd this week.
Hamilton is an eight-time winner of this race. He has a proud record, and we feel that will help drive him to a position on the podium this week.
