By the look of the top betting sites for NHL, the Panthers are all but done for. Down 3-1 in the series, Florida is a moneyline longshot +200 to pull off the road upset (Boston is -240). We’re not enthralled with either of those odds so instead we’re turning our attention to the Bruins-Panthers spread. Here are the current odds there:
The Bruins have ALL the momentum after taking two straight games in the Panther’s own arena. Those types of losses are the ones that unravel the psyche of the losing team. And for Florida, that’s the last thing they had left. This team has been lit up for 16 goals this series already. The offense has hardly been better, with only 11 going into the net. It’s time to stick a fork in ‘em.
We’re betting heavily on this Boston spread. With Stanley Cup aspirations, they need a home win to get much-needed rest. The Eastern Conference is stacked so they need every advantage they can get as the one seed. With a devastating front attack of Taylor Hall, Brad Marchand, and more, expect total domination from the Bruins here.
What a barn-burner of a series we’ve had so far in this one. Seattle, making its playoff debut, has not backed down from facing the reigning Stanley Cup champions in Colorado. We’re all tied up 2-2 with the series shifting back to Denver. We’ll be laying a pair of Avalanche-Kraken bets, but the first is on the moneyline:
Just two nights ago, Seattle gutted out a 3-2 victory in overtime. Colorado was almost single-handedly willed to victory by trusty Mikko Rantanen, who scored both times. He’s now up to five goals this series — most among the two teams.
Game 4 felt like a war of attrition, and losses were inflicted on each side too. Kraken’s leading scorer Jared McCann went down with an injury and has been ruled out for Game 5 (and likely the rest of the series). The hit that injured McCann came from Cale Makar, the Avs star. It’s been ruled a late hit, so now Makar is suspended for Game 5. Both are huge losses to their perspective teams.
This game is likely going to be a one-score game, given how competitive the series has been up to this point. However, Colorado’s championship experience could give me a slight edge. They’ve played much of the season without Makar already, so we expect them to fill his void better than Seattle without McCann.
With no Makar and no McCann — two proven playmakers for their teams — it’s zero wonder why bookies have set the Colorado-Seattle over/under so criminally low. We mean, just look for yourself:
The trends all hint that this game has serious underpotential. For one, when Seattle hits the road, they’ve gone under each of the last four times. The series as a whole has stayed under three out of four matchups.
Beyond the two players we mentioned missing, the home-ice team is also depleted elsewhere on the roster. Forward Valeri Nichushkin is still off the team for personal reasons (he last suited up in Game 2) — a huge blow considering he’s added two goals this series. This all comes from the Avs usual captain Gabriel Landeskog being gone this entire year. The rash of injuries and bad luck has made Colorado’s once-dominant offense very pedestrian this whole season.
We have to recommend betting the under on this one. There are just more question marks than answers for each side, especially on the offensive end.
