The PGA Tour is in sunny California again this week, this time at the eye-catching Pebble Beach course for the AT&T Pro-Am event. Here we bring all the information you need to know about the competition in our latest Golf betting picks.
What; AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Where; Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Monterey’s Shore Course, Pebble Beach, California
When; Thursday, February 2nd – Sunday, February 5th, 2023
Purse; $9,000,000
On Thursday, 156 professionals, and 156 amateur golfers, will line up to start the event. The players will complete one round at each of the three courses – Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and Monterey’s Shore Course – from Thursday to Saturday.
At the end of Saturday’s action, the top 60 professionals and 25 pro-am teams will return to the Pebble Beach course on Sunday to contest the final round.
The biggest names taking place at this event, who also happen to be the betting favorites, are Jordan Spieth, Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland, and 2022 winner Tom Hoge. Also in town this week are names like Justin Rose and Matt Kuchar. Showing it’s not just the youngsters who are in the running to win the event.
Last year Tom Hoge was the winner. Hoge shot an aggregate of -19 to win by two shots ahead of Jordan Spieth. However, it has to be said that Spieth was as low as -400 in the running to win the event on the final day.
LIV Golf dispute still dominating the Golf agenda
A lot of the big names in Golf were on the other side of the world for the Dubai Desert Classic last week. And if that event was anything to go by, it promises to be another crazy year in the world of Golf.
Before even a ball had been struck, we’d already seen words exchanged – via the media at least – between world number one Rory McIlroy and LIV Golf’s Patrick Reed. However, the incident itself was a bit of a non-event.
That argument doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, and while it’s fought out in the courts, we will no doubt keep getting incidents of this nature.
The outcome of the court battle could well influence the betting to win the Ryder Cup, with LIV players also fighting for their rights to play in the prestigious event. At the moment, the best online Golf betting sites make the USA favorites at -175, with Europe at +200, and the draw at +1200. Those odds are from BetOnline, who you can read more about in our BetOnline sportsbook review.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Betting
Unfortunately, the likes of Rory McIlroy aren’t competing in California this week, but there are still some big names in town. The betting favorite is England’s, Matt Fitzpatrick. The 2022 US Open winner is +1100 with BetOnline to win the competition.
Fitzpatrick is just ahead of Jordan Spieth, the 2017 champion, who is +1200. As we alluded to earlier, Spieth was a massive odds-on in-running last year and will no doubt see not winning here 12 months ago as one that got away. The former world number one was the favorite a few days ago but has now lost that tag to Fitzpatrick.
Making up the top three in the betting is Viktor Hovland, also at +1200. Hovland was also originally behind Spieth when the market opened but is now joint second-favorite after the drift on the latter. There is a bit of a gap until we get to 2022 champion Tom Hoge, who is +2000, which is also the same odds as Maverick McNealy and Seamus Power.
Head-to-head betting
In the head-to-head markets, Spieth is the outsider against both his fellow favorites. The American is +113 to beat Fitzpatrick on the moneyline. The Englishman is -135. On the handicap line, Spieth is -130 with a +1.5 shot start. Fitzpatrick, starting from -1.5 shots, is -101.
Viktor Hovland is -123 to beat Spieth on the moneyline, with the 3-times Major champion priced at +103 in the latest Vegas golf odds. On the handicap line, Spieth is -140 with a start of +1.5 shots. Hovland is +108 in this market.
Finally, Matt Fitzpatrick is favored to beat Viktor Hovland. On the moneyline, Fitzpatrick is -123, with Hovland at +103. The Norwegian is getting the start on the handicap, where he is -140 with a +1.5 strokes start. Fitzpatrick is +108.
AT&T Pro-Am Betting Picks
For our Golf betting picks, we’re going to look at a couple of markets and bring you a selection of picks that hopefully covers a couple of outcomes.
We’ll take a punt on Jordan Spieth in the outright winner market. After coming close to winning last year, Spieth will consider this event as unfinished business if he continues to drift in the betting, happy days. But for now, we’ll take Jordan Spieth at +1200 as our first pick.
For our outsider bet, we’re looking at the 2020 champion here, Nick Taylor. Taylor clearly has pedigree in these courses, having won the competition three years ago, and at +7500 is of great value to win again. Taylor finished 39th here in 2021 and 14th last year. At those odds, he is one of those bets that have you kicking yourself if he wins, and you haven’t backed him.
Finally, in the head-to-head markets, we like the look of Spieth beating Hovland. As we’ve already said, Spieth has a good record here. As well as winning here, he’s also finished second, third, and fourth here in the past.
He had a stinker in the 2nd Round of the Hawaiian Open last week when he somehow managed to miss the cut, this after leading at the end of the 1st Round. But he must be in good form to have been leading the event. So assuming he has got his head back together, he should be a good bet for this weekend.
