This week the Formula 1 roadshow heads to Mexico for Round 20 of the 2022 season, and with Max Verstappen looking for yet another win, we look ahead to the race and name our Formula 1 betting picks.
The 2022 season is nearing its conclusion. After Mexico, only two more races are left, Brazil and Abu Dhabi. It’s been a season dominated by Max Verstappen and his Red Bull team, with the Austrian team winning 15 of the season’s 19 races, including the last eight races.
Of those 15 wins for Red Bull, 13 of the victories have gone to Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has walked away with the title. And without wishing to take anything away from the world champion, it has become a bit of a procession.
Ferrari has made this all the worse, who, after promising so much at the beginning of the year, have seen their title challenge fizzle away. It’s also made betting on F1 far less attractive and difficult to find value betting picks.
Anyway, onwards and upwards, and before we get onto this week’s race, let’s have a recap of last weekend.
Max Verstappen won….. Yet again! Do I even need to write that?
Yes, the US Grand Prix was the Dutchman’s 13th victory and yet another excellent weekend for the relentless Red Bull.
Verstappen’s win also ensured the Constructors’ Championship went to Red Bull. One of either Verstappen or Perez needed to win to confirm the double for Red Bull. And as per usual, Verstappen got the job done.
At one stage, it looked like Lewis Hamilton was going to end his barren run in 2022 with a race win. But with just seven laps remaining, Verstappen reeled him in and ensured it was another winless weekend for Mercedes.

Charles Leclerc is the -225 betting favorite, with Sergio Perez next at +162. It now looks like a straight shootout between those two drivers. Beyond those two, George Russell is next in the betting at +10000, Lewis Hamilton at +15000, and Carlos Sainz at +20000.

This race is also known as the Mexico City Grand Prix and has been an on/off part of the Formula 1 calendar since 1963. The race has been held in its current format since 2015, becoming an integral part of the F1 season.
The circuit is 4.304 km (2.67 miles) long with 17 turns. With its long straights, the circuit is expected to suit Red Bull. And with Sergio Perez a local driver and the titles all decided, it could be that Red Bull focuses on trying to get the win for their second driver.
Last year the race was won by, yes, Max Verstappen. The Dutchman also took the pole position, although Valtteri Bottas driving for Mercedes, took the fastest lap. Another thing to note is the most successful driver in this circuit (currently racing) is also Max Verstappen, with three wins.
Obviously, Max Verstappen is the favorite to win the race with the best Formula 1 betting sites. The Dutchman is -175 with Bovada and BetOnline. This weekend he is not only followed by Charles Leclerc at +450, but also his teammate Sergio Perez.

I’m not aware of Perez being this short of winning all season. This can only be down to the fact that he’s now not needed to support Verstappen anymore, and it’s his home race.
The Vegas odds setters think there is a good chance that Verstappen could be moved aside to give the loyal Sergio Perez a well-deserved home Grand Prix victory. And it’s hard to disagree with that view.
Lewis Hamilton came close last week and is in form. But such is the dominance of Red Bull, and the Mercedes driver is still relying on mistakes from the newly crowned Constructors’ champions for him to have a chance of winning a race.
So with that in mind, and all of what I’ve alluded to above about Perez, and with this being his home Grand Prix, it’s not a difficult decision to make Sergio Perez my betting pick to win the 2022 Mexican Grand Prix.
Would Verstappen slow down to let Perez through? I’m not sure he would. He’s a proven winner who won’t want to give away a Grand Prix win. But given the possibility it could happen, I feel backing Max at -175 is a bit of a risk, making Perez a better value.
