NBA Future Picks require reading through gossip columns. A special thanks to Bovada online sportsbook for being so quick on the changes and shifts in the numbers. Now, with all that has happened over the past few weeks in the basketball world, naturally, things get rearranged as everyone finds themselves watching Boston for all the wrong reasons. With that in mind, it is time to do value hunting for VegasBetting.

The Boston Celtics found an unconventional way to gain value and now have company in the NBA odds. Now, the NBA team was one of the feel-good stories with Ime Udoka as their coach. Unfortunately, all that goodwill has seemingly gone up in smoke. The irony of all this is basically, Boston has more value in the NBA Future Picks because of a “scandal” of all things.
Honestly, it is crazy how these things work sometimes. At the end of August, Boston was as low as +400 on some sites, including BetOnline. Now, that has changed and might even shift some more. That is why Boston is on our “watch list” right now. Since no one knows what is going to happen next, the Celtics could just be that recurring soap opera the Brooklyn Nets were last year. Who knows?
So, the Boston Celtics knew about this affair(s) for a while. There is little doubt that the Celtics look like a mess off the court right now. Udoka has indeed been suspended for the year, and Joe Mazzulla was named interim coach for the 2022-23 season. It is interesting to note that there was this much of a move as Boston mostly has the same cast back in place and has options to potentially acquire someone like Jae Crowder, who wants out of Phoenix.
However, NBA Future Picks focuses on the next question? Do we now stay away from Boston or wait a little longer? Waiting has its risks here. There may be better value later in October, but what if there is not as training camp approaches?
Boston’s NBA Future Picks had better value in June during the NBA Finals. The Celtics were at +650 to +700 then. Now, they are in the +575 to +625 range. The Celtics could even lengthen a bit more. That is the pit and the pendulum when it comes to championship futures. Swings happen all the time. It becomes more about timing.
The strangest thing is that some teams become stronger with so much “drama” away from the basketball court. The Boston media will be relentless about this and ask many of the same questions. It may get to the point where the Celtics’ greatest refuge is on the basketball court itself. If anyone is wondering, Boston’s divisional future is only +115, but that conference one is at +275 to +300.
With Williams out until potentially Thanksgiving or longer, the Celtics will need to fill that hole temporarily. The concern with the center is his knees have been bothering him for some time. Will he be able to come back 100%? Team doctors say yes, but again, Boston has bigger problems. They have a few weeks to come together.
Finally, Oduka’s coaching could be missed a good deal, but some have said that Mazzulla more or less runs the same type of ship. Now, the thought process is again. They could rally and acquire more talent to help the interim coach out early on. The Boston title pick becomes a bit shaky for NBA Future Picks.
The NBA Future Picks welcome an old friend back to the favorites, technically co-favorites table. Can anyone believe the Golden State Warriors lead the way again on several sites? So, the Warriors have not moved a lot but just enough to inch past the Boston Celtics. This was a Warriors team that was on the ropes in the playoffs a few times last season only to bounce back and ultimately win their fourth NBA championship under Steve Kerr.
So, Golden State was the favorite title-wise last year, and at times where they had good value going for them. Whether it be injury concerns or stacked competition, Golden State hovered in the +650 to +750 range in June and again in August. Guess where they are now? The Warriors’ number shortened a little but nothing too drastic. They are mostly around +575 to +625. Only one or two outliers appeared they were further away from Boston.
Yes, some were concerned about a Jordan Poole distraction, but there is none. Golden State holds less value, though, than they did just a month ago.
For the NBA Future Picks, taking Golden State at +600 is not as good but could be worse.
Teams to stay away from shifts in their numbers is essential. Why? This is because bettors tend to jump too high or too low when drastic movements happen. Look at the Brooklyn Nets. Since it appears Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are together, for now, they jumped from +1400 to +650. Both Los Angeles teams are still in the top ten and could see some shortening. Those are red flags.
Perhaps teams like Dallas and Memphis have more value now at +2500 (down from +2000).
