Fev Rover is the most intriguing horse in the E. P. Taylor. Her move from Europe to North America has been successful, and she has run well in both her races in Canada. She won her last race, the Canadian (G2), gamely. She has the versatility to set the pace or get an outside stalking trip from this gate, and her three-back fourth at this distance was against horses proven in races tougher than this one.
Though Moira is only three, this race has been kind to sophomores. This is a step up from three-year-old Canadian-breds (albeit males) to older graded stakes horses, but she has run fast enough to be a serious factor, and she thoroughly impressed in the one ¼-mile Queen’s Plate last out. She is going first-time turf, but she has the right pedigree for it and is a great Woodbine grass jockey.
Adventuring comes third off the lay and appears to be a new and better horse at age four than she was at three. She won an off-turf stakes race at Mountaineer from just off the pace and then stepped up to win the Ladies Marathon (G3) at Kentucky Downs last out. She should take well to the Woodbine outer with tactical speed and form over that galloping turf course at Kentucky Downs.
Rougir seems like a horse to tread lightly with and use defensively if she looks good before the race. On the one hand, she has been disappointed in her last three starts after looking promising in the Beaugay (G3) in May. But, this is a step down in class compared to those recent starts. She also adds Lasix for the first time and is a Group 1 winner at this distance in France. That gives Rougir some chance to get on the right track.
Henrietta Topham is an interesting longshot to use in the exotics for the E. P. Taylor. She has not gone this long, but her pedigree should get her this distance. She can win from the lead or from well off the pace, meaning that jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson has options for her trip. And, since her connections fly under the radar, she should give you that upside at a big price.
