The number of players that could win this tournament seems like an immense number. However, some believe that there is this sort of overthinking that occurs right before a major tournament like The Masters. It is partly why the Valero Texas Open Picks have so much intrigue. Will a hot player coming in just lay siege to the field or will it be one of the expected favorites?
Now, the pandemic seems to be relaxing just enough to let this golf tournament be more like a “normal” golf tournament. Typically, McIlroy starts fast and runs out of gas late. A couple of weeks ago, it was the exact reverse. As much as his long-game suits the TPC-San Antonio, the former #1 just does not have the form to win this week. Yes, arguably one of the best bits of good news is that golfers will not see the abysmal weather they saw at The Players Championship. Instead, the TPC-San Antonio should feature very warm weather with temperatures in the mid 80’s to around 90. Morning lows will be around 60. The dry conditions should allow the greens and fairways to be faster than usual. That will give the longer drivers even more length.
The problem is those greens. That stimpmeter may register on the absurd by Saturday or Sunday. If Bryson DeChambeau had a little more control of his game, he would be an instant contender here. The course is perfect for someone who can just hit the daylights out of the ball and make some fast putts. Even then, that +3300 number in intriguing as one of the better Valero Texas Open picks.
There, lies no chance of play being suspended. That is great news for the golfers this week. Normally, this is a tournament that does not feature a ton of rain. The dry weather will test some and their patience but do not expect much in the way of winds. Friday and late on Sunday, however, the breezes may kick up at the tail end of each round. It is something to at least watch out for.

The golfer is a cerebral assassin that can string together shots. If he can get past his nightmare second round at The Players Championship, then Jordan Spieth will be just fine. After all, the American golfer has some success at this tournament including last year’s win, a 2015 runner-up, and several top tens.
Also, this TPC-San Antonio offers a good way for Spieth to get back into good form with The Masters on the horizon. He has that look of a golfer who can rise up to the level of competition. Now, can he sustain that over four rounds? That’s the big question. Unlike Hideki Matsuyama, Spieth has not shown that final round game many know he is capable of.
Will his irons and short-game cooperate? If there is a time, this may be the time for the American to finally bounce back.

2022 has taught us to just keep looking at the men’s field with an open lens. Do not get too close-minded. Some will need to let it ride.
