Despite leading the AL Central by five games, the Tigers have not played well at home this year. Anibal Sanchez takes the mound for the Tigers as he opposes Rockies lefty Jorge De La Rosa. Sanchez has not faced the Rockies as a Tiger, but owns a 3-0 record and 2.20 ERA against them from his time with the Marlins. We like Detroit in this contest.
Despite going just 5-5 in their last 10 games, the Tigers have been able to put some distance between themselves and the Royals and Indians. They have won the first two games in this series so far by scores of 4-2 and 11-5. Sanchez is pitching for his playoff rotation spot right now with the acquisition of David Price and the emergence of Rick Porcello. He has struggled of late, which has not helped his cause.
Even thought the Rockies have some intriguing talent on their roster they decided not to trade anyone away at the deadline this past week. Most notably, they kept Troy Tulowitzki, who is on the disabled list. They also held onto outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, who was injured on Friday night and might need a stint on the disabled list. De La Rosa is 11-6 this season with an ERA of 4.20 and is the team’s de facto ace.
